LIV Golf is about to finish the last portion of this season. 2023 has been quite favorable for many players who have bagged big sums as prize money. But this time, there is something special arranged by Greg Norman for the golfers’ caddies, who usually don’t get to participate in the exciting tournament.

LIV’s next event will be held in Jeddah, which will wrap up the championship before its grand Miami final. However, all the caddies of golfers get to have a mini-competition of their own in Saudi Arabia before the main event takes place, called the Caddie Championship.

It is widely known that caddies of LIV golfers enjoy more benefits on the Saudi tour. Not only do they enjoy a good portion of the elevated prize purse but they also get paid travel and lodging expenses during tournaments, which the PGA Tour doesn’t provide. And now the LIV caddies are set to have a night dedicated to their entertainment only!

Before the official Jeddah event starts this Friday, the Caddie Championship will be held at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club on Wednesday night, a precursor to the season-ending LIV Golf. The caddies will play the back nine at the beautiful Royal Greens using a four-man scramble format.

They will not be provided with a further caddie but will utilize carts. There is no designated prize purse but the winning team will be given trophies during a post-round podium ceremony. The whispers around town are claiming Brooks Koepka‘s Smash GC to be the most favorable team to win the event.

The Smash lineup will have Koepka’s longtime bagman Ricky Elliot. Others in the team include Chase Koepka’s caddie Ryan Fricker, who played with Chase at the University of South Florida, and Matthew Wolff’s caddie Nick Heinen, who was a one-time pro player on the developmental circuit. Jason Kokrak’s caddie David Robinson, who also played in developmental events and mini-tours, will also tee up in the event.

How do the caddies feel about the fun competition?

With the fun event being the first of its kind, what can one expect from the bagmen? While some are excited to take their boss’ place, others aren’t keeping such high hopes.

Talor Gooch’s caddie Malcolm Baker, who’s 53, isn’t much of a golfer anymore. “How do I feel about it? I barely play golf anymore. At 53, this body after 20 years of caddying, doesn’t work too much. But I think it’ll be fun.”

On the other hand, Dustin Johnson’s caddie Austin Johnson, who is also his brother, claimed he practiced his skill set coming into the tournament. “It’s my only tournament of the year, so I’m not going to come in with a half-effort.”
