Kathryn Newton was never sure what to call herself. A golfer who acts, or an actor who loves golf? Going by her current profession, the latter is more fitting. But the Bit Little Lies star hasn’t let acting put rust on her irons. Like last year, the 27-year-old star will tee up at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship this year as well. But at which handicap will she play?
Well, Kathryn Newton is a plus-handicapper. However, she revealed to Golf.com that currently her handicap is not updated. In 2022, the USGA profile assigned a +1.6 handicap. Whereas, a profile on Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, mentions that her best handicap has been a +2. The latest handicap that is available is a +4 on R&A’s website.
Regardless of her handicap mystery, her golf skills are in no doubt. She was introduced to Golf at age 5, by her father, David, a collegiate golfer. Ever since her passion for the game only went up. Simultaneously, her acting career was also in a budding stage.

In 2012, Kathryn Newton had to pull out of the sectional qualifier of the US Women’s Open because it clashed with her shooting schedule. She got the lead role in ‘Paranormal Activity 4.’ Interestingly, two golfers from that sectional qualifier are now LPGA Tour winners: Danielle Kang, and Angel Yin. Megan Khang was a friend as well during Notre Dame High School days.

Newton was selected as an ambassador of R&A in August 2023. “Kathryn is an avid golfer who is enthusiastic about getting more people into golf and we are grateful for her commitment towards supporting our aim of ensuring golf is thriving 50 years from now,” R&A Chief Development Officer, Phil Anderton said in the official statement.

Newton, on the other hand, is also an ambassador for Ralph Lauren, one of the most famous luxury fashion brands globally. And being a celebrity, she knows what increased visibility can bring to a game suffering from the lack of it. “They [LPGA Pros] don’t need to do anything. They don’t need to post on Instagram, they don’t need to do more stuff like that. It’s just, give them the stage to shine on, and then I think the people will come,” Newton said in a chat on the Subpar Podcast.
The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship kick starts on October 3. Aside from Newton, Oscar-winner Michael Douglas will tee up, as will Andy Garcia. Musician Tico Torres and Dave Farrell are the other two bigwigs at the DP World Tour event.
