After Tiger Woods announced his T-squared Social venture partnering with Justin Timberlake, Bryson DeChambeau took the lead in venturing into the sports entertainment business. However, the LIV Golf pro takes it a notch up by partnering with a local golf course.

Interestingly, DeChambeau has collaborated with a local startup, UnderPar Life, to make golf more accessible for common folks by reducing the cost barrier to enjoying golf. So, despite this being a for-profit venture, the eight-time PGA-Tour winner decided to revamp a municipal golf course. What is inside the project?

What is Bryson DeChambeau planning with UnderPar Life?

D-magazine reported that UnderPar Life, a Texas-based startup, has agreed with Hawks Creek Golf Course for a 99-year lease. Interestingly, it’s a municipality-owned golf course in Westworth Village, a suburb of Fort Worth in Texas.

A massively revamped 16,000-square-foot venue will boast 42 hitting bays, and a 500-yard driving range. Furthermore, a golf instruction academy, a gym, and a practice area will also be there.

For the LIV Miami winner, the idea was to make golf more affordable and accessible to the rank and file, which is why he decided to partner with a Municipality-owned golf course. It is an unusually high barrier to experience the joy of golf. UnderPar Life at Hawks Creek is the first of many locations designed to redefine access to golf by reducing cost barriers,D-magazine quoted the golfer as saying. Another advantage is definitely the fact that being a municipal course, it will remain open from the early hours to late evening.

But that doesn’t mean there won’t be any avenues for entertainment. On the contrary, the 30-year-old golfer is filling the venue with multiple avenues for relaxation and enjoyment. Aside from the course, gym, and driving range, the venue will boast three bars, and a kitchen with Christian Lehrmann as the chef-de-cuisine. The idea is to draw in lower-handicapped golfers as well as folks who have not picked up a club in their entire life.

Speaking of clubs, the 2020 US Open Champion is guiding the discussion with a golf club manufacturer for a future partnership. Additionally, as per the officials, tour-quality golf balls will be available for the visitors. The Bryson DeChambeau-led project is expected to start at the end of this year with a deadline of 12-14 months. After the completion of the first project, investors have plans to expand it to 30 locations across the country.

They want to tap into the small towns as well, where Top Golf or T-Squared Social might not think of venturing. Although this has not been touted as a direct competitor to Tiger Woods-led T-squared Social, sports entertainment venues across the USA will inevitably pose stiff competition to Tiger Woods and Justin Timberlake’s dream project.

Does it threaten the Tiger Woods-led venture?

How does T-Squared Social differ from DeChambeau’s venture? T-Squared is a golf-themed bar that opened its first venue in Manhattan, New York before moving to the small Scottish town of Fife. Unlike UnderPar Life, it does not actually have a course. Rather there are simulations where one can play golf.

The 22,000 square foot bar also offers multiple ways of recreation, from food to duckpin bowling lanes, and three dart bays. It’s open to the public like the UnderPar Life, but, members get additional benefits for $250 a quarter.

Recently, the bar was slated to open at St. Andrews in Fife but faced strong opposition from the local residents, who felt it was aimed at tourists, not at the local people. However, as for UnderPar Life, it seems the main target is to bring in local folks to the golf course.

One upside for DeChambeau’s venture is that it’s based on an actual golf course. A golf fan can walk in, have lunch, and play a few rounds of golf. Whereas, in the case of T-Squared Social, one has to satisfy oneself with full-swing simulation.

Bryson DeChambeau reportedly felt out of place at the PGA tour. As per Alan Shipnuck, the former PGA-Tour pro felt no one liked his ideas and thought of him as a leader. His recent win at LIV Miami leading Crushers GC to victory has surely put everyone wrong about his leadership ability. LIV Golf has given him enough financial firepower to put forth his ideas in his own project. Remains to be seen, if he can prove the naysayers wrong in his business venture as well.
