The WM Phoenix Open sure did turn the heads of many. But, despite the bad weather and chaotic fans enjoying themselves, the golf world has not forgotten to shine its spotlight on the players leading the scoreboard, especially Charley Hoffman. However, as the professional dishes out his exemplary skills on the greens, many eyes in the community turn to his forearm.
Why? Well, there is a big scar on the lower arm of the golfer, which came as a result of a surgery he had undergone a while back. However, as the American closely missed out on his fifth victory on the circuit after 2016, one can’t help but become curious about the mark, which signifies a tough moment in his life.

Back in May 2023, the professional shared an update on his Instagram handle with a picture of the scar. He mentioned how there are “risks involved in being out in the sun,” all the while recounting a routine visit he had with a dermatologist two weeks before the same. Unfortunately, they found “severely sun-damaged skin” on his forearm.
Adding on, the 47-year-old recalled how he wanted to wait till the end of the 2023 season to do the procedure but eventually decided against it. “Cancer isn’t anything you want to mess around with,” said the golfer before going ahead with the surgery. As a result of the same, “a huge chunk of his forearm” was removed, leading to his missing the 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge at the Colonial Golf Course.
When did he come back to the game? Well, the post was shared on May 18th, last year. Before the procedure, he last played at the AT&T Byron Nelson, where he failed to make the cut. However, the following month, he made his appearance at the 2023 U.S. Open after the surgery, where he finished at T49 with a score of 6 over 286.
Charley Hoffman dealt with a serious batch of skin cancer last year that required a huge chunk of his forearm to be removed.
