THE PLAYERS Championship 2025 is being played at TPC Sawgrass. The beautiful course has been used for the tournament ever since it began in 1974. Interestingly, Sawgrass is not the only TPC course on the Tour. A few weeks prior, the 2025 WM Phoenix Open was also played on a TPC course in Scottsdale. While fans might be aware of Sawgrass and Scottsdale, not everyone would know what “TPC” stands for.
TPC stands for Tournament Players Clubs. It is a chain of golf clubs owned and operated by the PGA Tour. They are private clubs that are specifically designed to host large crowds for big PGA Tour events. Fans might have seen the same during the Waste Management Phoenix Open, where the course was packed with fans. In fact, TPC Scottsdale hosts some of the rowdiest fans in the world. And the PGA Tour needs a specially designed course to handle the wild crowd.
But THE PLAYERS Championship is undoubtedly the biggest tournament played annually on a TPC course. Unlike the WM Phoenix Open, this flagship event of the PGA Tour often features the biggest and the best in the world of golf. All of them gather to battle for one of the biggest PGA Tour titles of the season.

However, Sawgrass and Scottsdale are not the only TPC courses operated by the PGA Tour. Most of these courses are in the United States, and have frequently hosted events on the Korn Ferry Tour and the PGA Tour Champions. TPC Danzante Bay remains the only TPC course in Loreto, Mexico.

TPC River Highlands is the home of the Travelers Championship. This is the final signature event of the season and has seen some big names outperform the field to win it. Interestingly, some might be surprised to learn that Tiger Woods has never won this signature tournament. The 3M Open has been regularly played at TPC Twin Cities since the tournament’s inception in 2019. Lastly, TPC Craig Ranch hosts the CJ Cup Byron Nelson tournament each year. Interestingly, Woods earned his 5th PGA Tour title by winning this tournament in 1997. Back then, it was known as the GTE Byron Nelson Golf Classic.
The remaining TPC courses host a mix of other PGA Tour events and also the Seniors Tour tournaments. Speaking of that, have you ever attended a PGA Tour event on a TPC course? Let us know in the comments section.
