The first event of the PGA Tour’s 2024 season is just five days away. The first of eight signature events will be The Sentry (formerly known as Sentry Tournament of Champions). It will be the first no-cut event with a limited field showcasing their talent.

As the PGA Tour unveiled those playing at the Sentry, many people on the internet were enraged over the PGA Tour’s format impersonating that of LIV Golf. The netizens called out the Tour on Hypocrisy as LIV Golf was previously disparaged for the no-cut format.

The field for the PGA Tour’s inaugural event of the 2024 season is set. The top 59 players from 2023 will be teeing it up at the Plantation Course at the Kapalua Resort, Hawaii. The player’s field includes winners from the 2023 season and the top 50 players on the FedExCup Standing, not already exempt.

The Sentry will be commencing on 4th January and will end on 7th. The PGA Tour has recently released the full players’ field. Among the 59 players, 35 are 2023 PGA Tour winners, and the rest 24 players are selected based on their FedExCup standings. Two past winners missing from the list are Rory McIlroy and the ex-PGA Tour golfer Jon Rahm.

McIlroy had explained before that he was “not a huge Hawaii guy” and his first event would probably be the Genesis Invitational. On the other hand, Rahm accepted the LIV Golf deal and subsequently got suspended from the Tour. However, there are still exceptional players in the field like World No.1 Scottie Scheffler, Ryder Cupper Ludvig Aberg, 6x PGA Tour winner Viktor Hovland, and many more.

Even with major winners donning the Sentry’s field, the revelation was disappointing to many on the internet. Netizens called out the Tour for the resemblance in the format, with the one followed by LIV Golf, while few found the field to be weak.

Netizens appalled by the no-cut, small field, call the Tour hypocrites

After criticizing LIV Golf for its unique concept of 54 holes, a small field, and a no-cut event, the PGA Tour has adopted two out of three features for its 2024 inaugural event. The netizens noticed the player’s field that was shared and could not contain their harsh comments on the Tour’s ‘hypocrisy’.

Another netizen made a sarcastic remark on the no-cut observed for The Sentry and how they will get OWGR points, unlike LIV Golf. Furthermore, they called it “an SNL skit with extra hypocrisy” as the PGA Tour has shown its disapproval of no-cut events in the past.

This golf enthusiast called out Rory McIlroy about his absence from the field of the signature event and agreed with negative comments.

One fan pointed out how the past two winners of the Sentry, Jon Rahm, and Cameron Smith, are missing from the list and questioned if this year’s champ will also move to LIV Golf.

This user had one word for the Sentry’s field as it looked “pathetic” to him.
