The LIV Golf format has often been criticized for its restrictive structure. The 54 par and 3 round limit per event ensure shorter game time. Moreover, the strict pace of play policy also enables quick plays. While it may seem exciting on paper, the approach doesn’t allow pros to express themselves with their perfectly calculated strokes to win tournaments.
LIV Golf has always seemed to lack in terms of execution. So it didn’t come as a surprise when another recent incident about their approach caught the attention of the fans. The event in question was the 2024 Saudi International tournament.
World no. 161, Ben Campbell recently participated in the event. The 33-year-old delivered an exhilarating performance that excited many LIV Golf loyalists across the globe. Everyone expected Campbell to progress in his career as a professional golfer.

That was not to be as per a tweet shared by @flushingitgolf a few hours ago. The golf news outlet tweeted, “Ben Campbell deserves so much credit for his performance today. A bogey free, 7 under, 64 in the final round to finish solo 4th of the Saudi International is very impressive under that pressure.” They also added, “It wasn’t quite enough though, and he will finish 1 shot away from a life changing LIV contract. With a contracted LIV player winning the title, there will now not be any qualifiers for the LIV Golf League via the International Series standings.” The last part of their tweet read, “This is something that they need to change going forward. Promoting this as the “Pathway to LIV Golf” and then not actually promoting anyone is a really bad look. They should add more spots, and create their own stars. Feeder systems are essential for that.”
Unfortunately, Ben Campbell will not get his LIV Golf contract after such a great show at the 2024 Saudi International. Especially when LIV Golf themselves have given players like him hope that participating in the tournament will lead to a fruitful conclusion.

It is no surprise that the LIV Golf fans had a lot to say about the entire situation. Let’s see what they said.
Fans berate Greg Norman & co.
The tweet received a lot of reactions ever since it was posted. @MThi_59 criticized the process set up by LIV Golf as they said, “LOL What a scam. LIV players STEALING food from the mouths of Asian Tour players trying to make a career and living. Has LIV actually done anything to help golf?” That is ‘essentially’ what LIV Golf was doing by pushing promising talents away from promotion. @bigbrain2024 had things to say about LIV Golf and the PGA Tour: “THIS IS FRAUD #LIVGolf! Loading the last event with 44 of your 57 players and then denying a spot because a LIV player won is bait and switch. I don’t want to hear anything from fanboys about #PGATour lowering their cards from 125 to 100. It should be done like #DPWorldTour 🤬👎.” suggesting that DP World Tour’s implementation of a golfer’s progression is much more adept than that of the PGA Tour and LIV Golf.

@eagle_ed11 advised “A team needs to sign him regardless.”, indicating that the contract doesn’t necessarily need to come from Greg Norman‘s office. @AaronSchiro had their own take on the strategy LIV Golf needs to adopt: “It just needs to be the highest person on the list not already in LIV. Very easy change to make for future years.” hinting that LIV Golf should bring in the best performers from lower tier leagues to keep the ball rolling. @dustin_kersey had an entirely different perspective to the entire incident as they said, “Would rather see more promoted through a season long OOM than a guy getting hot at a weekend Q school. Need to respect the grind of a season long battle 👍,” which is a format similar to one implemented by the PGA Tour.
