The Jock MacVicar Award, which bears the name of the well-known Scottish golfer Jock MacVicar, is given each year to someone who has demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, commitment to the game, and a strong bond with Scottish golf. Since MacIntyre and Jock had a close relationship going back to their junior years at Scottish Golf, this prize has special meaning for him.
When MacIntyre was asked in the 2023 Genesis Scottish Open final day post-press conference, What it means to you to win the Jock MacVicar Award, he replied, his voice filled with emotion, “I spent a lot of time with Jock over the years since my junior days at Scottish Golf. I remember when he passed, I went down to his funeral down at Dunaverty, and I thought so much of Jock, and we’d always sit and chat before any media stuff.”
The Scottish golfer and Jock MacVicar shared more than just the fairways. Their friendship off the course was a testament to their strong regard for one another and their shared passion for the sport, which went beyond simple rivalry.
“It’s unbelievable to get an award like that. I got an award from Adam—my coach, and it’s unbelievable to get one from Jock. He was one of the best men in golf,” MacIntyre said proudly and with humility, according to a report.
In addition, MacIntyre discussed the value of the award in comparison to other honors he has received, such as Adam’s coach’s acknowledgment. Considering the legacy of the man it is named after, the Jock MacVicar Award holds special significance. Jock MacVicar was admired for both his golfing prowess and for being one of the best people in the golfing industry.
What happened on the final day at the 2023 Genesis Scottish Open?
After Robert MacIntyre’s amazing eagle on the last hole, Rory McIlroy trailed by one stroke and looked set for another demoralizing Sunday at the Genesis Scottish Open. McIlroy had a chance to catch up on the par-5 16th up ahead, but his dreams were dashed by a missed birdie opportunity. The possibilities of winning were minimal as he faced the intimidating par-3 17th and the difficult par-4 18th while playing into a strong 25 mph wind.

McIlroy, however, resisted giving in to the pressure. He showed off his skill by hitting a superb 5-iron shot at the 17th hole, leaving the ball just five feet from the hole and setting up a vital birdie to tie the course leading. He was unfazed by the challenging circumstances and faced a daunting 202 yards to the 18th hole. McIlroy launched a laser-like shot that landed only 11 feet from the cup while demonstrating confidence in his new 2-iron, a club he had just added to his bag.
McIlroy easily sunk the 11-foot putt to secure his first straight birdies of the whole week after summoning all of his talent and tenacity. As the ball vanished into the cup, the spectators cheered, giving McIlroy a shock victory at the Genesis Scottish Open.
