On Friday, the second round of the Wells Fargo Championship saw a midway suspension for an hour due to the weather. Fortunately, gameplay resumed the same day, and the remaining seven groups concluded their rounds late in the evening. Breaking tradition, this year it’s likely that a veteran will grab the win.
Currently in the lead is 7X PGA Tour Champion Xander Schauffele, who has maintained his No. 1 position through the first two rounds. He has the solo lead with 11-under, 131. A bogey from Schauffele on the final hole on Friday caused the runner-ups, Rory McIlroy and Jason Day, to inch closer to him. Notably, they are still 4 strokes away. The third round on Saturday will, no doubt, be a close call as to who takes home the win!

If Xander Schauffele maintains his lead through the final round, he stands to win a hefty $3.6 million check. In addition to that, of course, he/whoever does go on to win will take home the stunning Wells Fargo Championship trophy—a beautiful handmade cast bronze cup. The rhodium-plated trophy also has a hand-carved crystal in the center, which features the championship logo.

Notably, the invite-only championship has no 36-hole cut. This means all 68 golfers at Quail Hollow stand to take home a part of the purse, as long as they finish their Sunday round, with the last-placed player still heading home with $41,400.
