Undoubtedly, Phil Mickelson is an eternal Ryder Cup legend. The veteran golfer has a record of 13 consecutive appearances at the prestigious biennial cup. However, this year was the first time that he stayed out of the playing field and instead joined the team as an assistant captain.
Nevertheless, Mickelson was ecstatic at the opportunity of being part of the team. Talking about the same, he thanked captain Steve Stricker for including him and said on twitter that he was ‘humbled and honoured’ at this chance to lead the team.

Team USA on Phil Mickelson and his contributions
A journalist addressed a question to Jordan Spieth in the post event press conference. He asked, “What has Vice Captain Mickelson brought to the squad?” Curiously enough, a few laughs broke out across the team.
Spieth deflected the question to Bryson DeChambeau and Scottie Scheffler, saying that he didn’t spend enough time with him and hung out more with Zach Johnson.
The 25-year-old rookie, Scottie Scheffler, expressed his happiness with the Ryder Cup legend. He said, “Phil did a wonderful job for us. He kept things loose. I think he was really well timed for how excited he got for certain things.” In reference, he gave an example of his excitement for when DeChambeau hit a 42o-yard drive.

The question then passed to captain Stricker. He jokingly began by saying, “Anything Phil said during this whole competition I cannot repeat!” That caused the entire team to erupt into fits of laughter by way of agreement.
He carried on, saying, “He was great to have on the team. His lightness, his demeanor with the team made the whole atmosphere in the team room that much better as well.”
