After a successful first shot that landed on the fairway, the 31-year-old golfer’s second shot ended up getting trapped in the greenside bunker. It’s worth mentioning that he was just a foot away from reaching the green. However, the sand became a major obstacle for the golfer as his ball sank inches below the bunker’s lip. The 2021 Master Champion was left stranded, only to attempt to get the ball out of the bunker 3 times.
Matsuyama’s encounter with the bunker proved to be a setback, resulting in a double bogey and impacting his performance. He wasn’t able to make the cut as a result. Bunker shots are a common challenge in golf, as evidenced in the past when golfers had to face similar situations at prestigious events like the Open Championship.
