This year, a few young names in women’s golf have carved out their own space in the sport. It has been a phenomenal year for one of these golfers, Lilia Vu who managed to secure three wins on the LPGA in just one season. Out of her wins, two were majors.
Her mind-blowing performances throughout the season not only brought her much fame but also secured her place in this year’s Solheim Cup. Hence, after such an incredible season, Vu is on her way to bring glory to America and end a decade-old golf drought.

Every player wants to be recognized for their efforts towards improvement and further contributions to the game. The LPGA Player of the Year gives them this chance and puts a spotlight on their hard work. Lilia Vu who is currently enjoying her breakout season, is in the run for this title.
In this race, Lilia has a 21-point advantage over other contestants Ruoning Yin and France’s Celine Boutier. Currently, she has a total of 124 points. If she wins, then she will become the first American to win the award since 2014 when Stacy Lewis won it. Last year, Lydia Ko won the title with 180 points.
The points for Player of the Year are given to top-10 finishes on the LPGA. The winner of non-major tournaments earn 30 points while the runner-up gets 12 points. Adding to the list of benefits, the award winner also earns an LPGA Hall of Fame point. Lilia Vy stands the chance to earn all this if she wins.
The 25-year-old Vu turned a professional player in 2019 and since then she has been in search of her first win on the LPGA. After waiting 4 years, her hard work and patience finally paid off. She won her first event on the Tour in February at the Honda LPGA Thailand. Little did she know the glory that awaited her this season.

Lilia Vu’s impressive wins from the 2023 season
In April, Vu won the first major of her career at the Chevron Championship in a playoff against Angel Yin. After tasting one massive victory, she aimed for another and acquired it. She grabbed another win at the last women’s major this year at the AIG Women’s Open with 6 strokes over Charley Hull. And then she made her debut in the Solheim Cup and though her team lost, she earned the experience that comes with playing a tournament of such magnitude.
