Are these constant travel issues a sign of deeper problems in the LPGA Tour's organization?

The fourth major of the season, the Amundi Evian Championship, is set to take place from July 11 through July 14 in France, and preparations are in full order. Golfers are flying to the Evian Resort GC, but only if it were that easy.   

Flight delays are a common problem nowadays! Golfers are frequent victims of luggage mishandling, with golf bags often being lost, damaged, or misplaced during transit. It is frustrating and can prove more costly for professionals, especially when specialized equipment like golf clubs is involved. This time too, an LPGA star, Allisen Corpuz, has faced somewhat a similar situation.

Allison Corpuz, the 2023 US Women’s Open winner, is not having a great day. She is en route to France to challenge other golfers for the prestigious Evian Championship. But rather faced a challenging delay in her flight. The LPGA professional added a story on her Instagram in which she conveyed a look of mild frustration. 

The story highlighted a negative travel experience; Corpuz wrote, Flying @united is mostly smooth, but when it goes bad, it goes bad.” Specifically, her frustration mounts on the reason that she was not informed of her canceled Lufthansa flight that she had booked months ago. She added, Thanks for not giving us a heads up about the canceled @lufthansa flight we booked months ago. 

As a result, the Hawaii native has been traveling for more than 27 hours. Have been en route for 27 hrs and counting now 👎The 26-year-old tagged both United and Lufthansa Airlines, seeking a response to resolve her issue. Well, it’s not the first time the Rolex Ranking No. 33 golfer has faced an airline issue.

In October 2022, she took to social media to express her frustration with American Airlines. Airlines officials hassled the major winner over the contents of her golf bag, which included an umbrella, even though she had packed them without issue on previous flights.

Charley Hull’s major mishap somewhat mirrors Corpuz’s travel troubles

Charley Hull was left frustrated and anxious with British Airlines after her golf bag failed to arrive at the Women’s PGA Championship. Hull’s bag was lost in transit, leaving her without trusty clubs and equipment. She shared her plight on Instagram, and wrote, “Thanks to BA for losing my golf bag on route to a major. Have no luck trying to track it. @british_airways please can you help?” However, the Englishwoman was eventually reunited with her clubs a day before the start of the tournament.

Hull’s ordeal echoed the struggles faced by Allison Corpuz, who was hassled by airlines over her delayed flight. Like Corpuz, Hull was left frustrated by the experience. Despite the setback, Hull remained determined, saying, I’m just going to have to get on with it and make the best of it. After the major concluded, she had to settle for a T-16 finish.
