Golf, being a highly competitive sport, can easily result in injuries. These can bring minor or massive setbacks to the player. This often results in players leaving the tournament midway. With the upcoming 2023 Open Championship on the line, a lot is ridding for one particular two-time PGA Tour winner who recently suffered an injury on the greens.

Out of the Scottish Open with an injury

With two PGA Tour wins under his belt, Seamus Power had to withdraw from the 2023 Scottish Open owing to his hip injury. After nine holes of action at Rennaissance Club in Scotland on July 13, 2023, Power withdrew from the much-awaited Scottish Open. “I know my golf recently has probably put me out of the (Ryder Cup) fold, but this is a step in the right direction,” Power said, talking about his appearances in the Scottish Open and The Open.

The injury just a week before the Open Championship was a shocker. In the wake of this setback, whether Power will participate in the Open Championship or not, is unknown. The chances for his selection for the Ryder Cup also look doubtful.

When asked about his prognosis by the Irish Independent, Power said, “Will know more hopefully by tomorrow, but not sure as of right now.

A professional golfer from Ireland, Power had several notable wins throughout his golf career. Power started his career at East Tennessee State University with 5 wins.  This includes the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship in 2007 and 2010. He became the frist Irish golfer to win the Web.com tour when he was declared the champion at the United Leasing & Finance Championship in May 2016.

Power emerged as a winner in a total of 7 professional tournaments, which include 2 PGA tour wins. He won his first PGA Tour event after beating J.T. Poston in a Playoff at the Barbasol Championship in July 2021. His second PGA Tour win came at Butterfield Bermuda Championship in October 2022, where he shot three rounds of 65 en route, achieving a one-shot victory over Belgian pro-golfer Thomas Dentry.

A brilliant history with a few cuts

Along with his successes on the two PGA tours, Power also represented Ireland in the 2016 Olympic Gold Tournament. He even showcased his skills with a solid performance at the PGA Championship 2002, pulling off a T9 finish.
