The LIV Golf and PGA Tour banter just doesn’t seem to get over. Whenever the dust between the two settles, someone new enters and makes a controversial statement. However, the new elevated events on the PGA Tour also appear to be a way of standing head-to-head with LIV Golf. And PGA Tour pro Peter Malnati seems to have a unique opinion about it!
Peter Malnati expresses his views on the PGA Tour’s elevated events
After recently making a cut at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Peter Malnati was in conversation with Alan Shipnuck. The two talked about all the current issues in the golf world. And that included the PGA Tour and LIV Golf controversy. Not to forget, Shipnuck has been part of the entire squabble ever since Phil Mickelson made some questionable statements about the American Tour in an allegedly ‘off the record’ interview. And it was even before Greg Norman officially launched the LIV Golf league.

Ever since the Saudi League came into existence, there has been an undeniable divide between fans and professional golfers from both rival tours. While LIV Golf offered lucrative amounts of money to the players, it took away the entire concept of making cuts in tournaments. On the other hand, PGA Tour supporters were adamant about keeping the legacy of the game alive.
But after the introduction of the new elevated no-cut events on the PGA Tour, several fans were disappointed. And during their conversation, Shipnuck asked Malnati about his views on the matter. In his response, the golfer said he’d been asking the commissioner the same question repeatedly.

“I’ve thrown this in the commissioner’s face, a lot of times,” he said. “We were at the RBC Canadian Open, and the commissioner went on CBS in the Sunday broadcast, and he said, ‘What we do at the PGA TOUR is true and pure competition’, and I’ve thrown that line at him incessantly over the last months.” Malnati mentioned that he was completely against having no-cut events and still saying that the PGA Tour offers ‘true and pure competition’.

“We can’t have no cut events and say we do true and pure competition…I’ve been adamant about that,” the professional added. His reaction towards the PGA Tour’s new events was not very surprising. Most Tour fans are currently confused about this new model. But surprisingly, Tiger Woods and many other famous golfers on the tour are in support of these elevated no-cut events.
