The U. S. Adaptive Open is the USGA’s 15th national golf championship that features the world’s best golfers with disabilities.The inaugural event has already begun on July 19 at the Village of Pinehurst, and the PGA Tour legend, Tiger Woods, is more than proud of the players participating in the event!

The United State Golf Organization has been committed to improving the community of golfers with disabilities for more than 30 years. The USGA initiatives include announcing grants to support the NGOs in 1991 and joining hands with the R&A to administer a global ranking in 2019. And the U. S. Adaptive Open is the organization’s latest initiative to support golfers with disabilities.
Tiger Woods expresses his support for the USGA initiative
Turned professional in 1996, Woods had one of the most impressive career profiles ever. He has won 100+ championship titles, 82 on the PGA Tour, including 15 majors and 18 World Golf Championships.
With his career records, Woods is considered the greatest golfer ever, and many consider him their role model. However, according to him, the U.S. Adaptive Open players are the true heroes!

Notably, a full television coverage isn’t available to watch the empowering tournament. However, fans can watch real-time highlights and feature stories from Noon to 2 PM during Golf Today and 4-5 PM during Golf Central on Golf Channel. Moreover, Golf Central will be showcasing the presentation ceremony on July 20.
Field, scoring format, and more about the 2022 U. S. Adaptive Open
Although it is an inaugural event, nearly 100 players had teed up at Pinehurst No. 6 on July 19. And 15 of them have a Handicap Index better than 0.

Notably, the USGA allowed golfers, professional or amateurs, not to exceed 36.4 Handicap Index. They were required to have an eligible impairment confirmed by World Ranking for Golfers with Disability Pass. Furthermore, players from the age of 15 to 81 are present on the field!

Unlike other USGA Championships, the 54-hole event has a different scoring format. It will use the maximum score format, which has been set at double par for each hole.
Furthermore, there will be two champions in the tournament; a male and a female. They will receive a gold medal and custody of the U.S. Open Adaptive Trophy for one year.
