Surprised? Yes, even a condor is a word for a score, just like a birdie, eagle, or bogey. A condor in golf is extremely rare. So a condor in golf is a score of four under par. Moreover, the condor has occurred only six times in the entire history of golf. Hence, not many fans or followers of the game know about this term.
When was the first condor scored in golf?
Birdies, eagles, and albatross are common occurrences in golf. However, until 1962 there was no term for a score of four under par. This means a hole in one on a par-5 or two shots on par-6. Hence, in 1962 Larry Bruce made a hole-in-one on a dogleg right 480 yards par-5 hole at Hope Country Club.
But there was no term for this score, and that’s when the term condor came into existence. Each time the players have got assistance either from the cart path or the winds. Furthermore, there have been only six condors in the history of golf, with Larry Bruce making it for the first time.
