Spiranac turned to social media after retiring from playing professional golf in 2016. She remained in touch with fans by uploading trick shots and golf lessons. Back in 2017, the golf beauty posted a clip of hers performing a cartwheel, which stunned her growing fanbase.

The golfer dumbfounded audiences with the cartwheel, but it didn’t stop there. Spiranac then grabbed a golf club to drive a golf ball, which displayed her golf skills too.

But not many know of Spiranac’s initial venture into gymnastics. But how close was the 29-year-old to making a career out of the indoor sport? Let’s find out.

Spiranac’s gymnastic dream

The golf sensation once detailed her former interests in sports in an interview with the American brand, Esquire. “I actually was a competitive gymnast for the first part of my life,” she revealed.

However, a rare injury, while doing a vault, forced Spiranac to stay away from the game. “I was doing a vault, so I was jumping backward [and] when I was taking off, the muscle pulled the bone off my kneecap,” she said.

But in an act of bravery, Spiranac didn’t showcase the injury for almost a month. She was also scared of scoldings from her parents and coaches but finally gave up. “I finally told my mom. The doctor said that this injury was like one in a million,” she said.

But after a recurrence of the injury six months later, Spiranac was forced to bid goodbye to her gymnastic hopes. That’s when, she revealed, her father introduced her to golf. “Then my dad was like, ‘I think you would really love golf. You have a good personality for it.’ I hit the first golf ball and loved it right away.”
