“I feel good about it,” Finau said before the challenge. “Yeah, I think I’ve got a great chance.” The 32-year-old sounded confident to make it to the leaderboard of the challenge.
“Ouch,” the Golf TV representative exclaimed as soon as she saw the golfer hit the drive. “I’ve got some work to do,” Finau said, since he also felt despondent with his first shot.
According to the rules of the challenge, Finau needed to cover a total of 1000 yards in three chances. The golfer covered 332 yards on his first try. The 2021 Northern Trust tournament champion hit another 341 yards on his second chance.
“We need a big one, a 380,” the Golf TV anchor reminded Tony about the yard he would need to cover to go top on the leaderboard. Even though he hit the ball at a 201 mph, Finau could only cover 351 yards in his third try.
The 32-year-old couldn’t top the leaderboard with his efforts. However, he still managed to cover more than 1000 yards in his three chances. Finau covered a total of 1024 and secured a fourth position on the challenge.

By the time Finau finished his challenge, Wilco Nienaber was at the top of the leaderboard, having covered 1051 yards. Meanwhile, Lucas Herbert and Zander Lombard had secured the second and third spots, respectively. But as the last contestant, Sean Crocker, took part in the challenge, Finau’s name was long gone. Players like Bryson DeChambeau had topped him on the leaderboard with 1068 yards.

“It’s just 44 and 1/2 inches, so just half an inch shorter than standard,” Finau described the shaft he uses for long drives during the challenge. The golfer also explained that he uses the G425 ping driver since the beginning of this calendar year.
Golfers tend to modify their driver to make it longer to cover more yards. However, Finau did the opposite and had the Golf TV anchor intrigued. “I have really long arms,” Finau added. “I don’t need the extra length on the shaft.”
