Rory McIlroy is a four-time major championship winner. As a result, he is considered one of the best professionals in the sport. Moreover, the Northern Irishman is a part of the 2022 Dubai Desert Classic. Rory even had the share of the lead entering the last hole, and then this happened.

Rory McIlroy hits three wood in the water
The 32- year-old professional was playing his second event of the 2022 season. He finished in tied for the 12th position at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, which was the first event of the season. Rory is famous for his long drives and powerful ball striking.
McIlroy entered the final round of the Dubai Desert Classic just two shots back off the lead of Justin Harding. Rory had a bogey on his first hole in the final round but steadied his ship with pars and two consecutive birdies on the sixth and the seventh hole. He shot one-under-par on the front nine.

McIlroy started his back nine at the Majlis course with a fabulous bogey and quickly bounced back with a birdie on the 11th hole. He then went on to birdie the 13th hole as well to take the lead. Fast-forwarding to the 17th hole Rory McIlroy hit his tee shot way left into the waster area. He made a beautiful up and down to save par and moved to the final hole with a share of the lead with Victor Hovland. McIlroy took a safe approach by hitting his faithful three-wood on the 18th hole.
McIlroy was 267 yards from the pin for his second shot with a good lie but a bit of mud on his ball. As a result, the ball could go anywhere. McIlroy chose to hit a fade into the gallery hole but ended his winning chances when his ball ended up in the water. McIlroy’s putt to force a playoff just hit the lip and slide by ending his chances of becoming a winner.

Who won the event at last?
Victor Hovland defeated Richard Bland in a playoff. Victor birdied his playoff hole to win his first Rolex Series event and become the 2022 Dubai Desert Classic champion.
