The game is on! After losing all of their matches on the first day, the Internationals went into Day 2 of the Presidents Cup with a point to prove. And that point has been resoundingly proven. They have turned it back around and won all 5 of their matches against Team USA. One big win came against World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley who Si Woo Kim and Byeong Hun An beat.
The effervescent Si Woo Kim who always brought the energy into the game was so emotionally charged after sinking his birdie putt on the last hole that he had to be reminded to shake the opponent’s hands by Byeong Hun An’s caddie.
Kim and An were playing the last shot of the day with the pressure of all the Americans and Internationals and a huge crowd on them. The match had been tense and tied through to the 12 hole after neither pair could hold the lead. After winning the 13, though, the Internationals did not relinquish the one-hole lead and defended it until the very last.

The outpouring of emotion was intense as the partisan Canadian crowd welcomed the huge reversal in their team’s favor. The players themselves were joyously celebrating both their own performance against the top player Scottie Scheffler as well as their team’s comeback. Netizens having witnessed the excitement, were giddy with emotion.

Fans saw the moment and completely related to Si Woo Kim. Just after losing against the same guys a day before, he came back and won. And not only that, the Internationals came back to make the next two days something they can look forward to. The emotion was summed up by this fan, “I noticed that too! Very important but what a putt… to win!!” Another commenter wrote in agreement, “Me too!”.
Another golf enthusiast pointed out that it was very sportsmanlike behavior from the caddie, pointing out the emotional situation for Kim, considering the team had just come back from a 5-0 deficit. The commenter wrote, “This won’t get talked about much but that’s great sportsmanship from the caddie. His emotions would have been all over the place clawing back a 5-0 deficit, fair play to the caddie for that”.
The praise for the caddie kept coming, one fan wrote, “Loved this. Joe “The Show” LaCava would never”. He was referencing Tiger Woods’ long-time caddie Joe LaClava who caddied for Patrick Cantlay in last year’s Ryder Cup. In that particular tournament, he gained notoriety for waving his cap at Rory McIlroy’s face, leading to a dispute between the two. The whole incident rubbed fans the wrong way as they held LaClava responsible for unsportsmanlike behavior.

Another hilarious take came from a user who said, “As Spieth once said…Si Woo shakin that…hand?”. The reference here was Jordan Spieth singing the popular Fat Boy Slim song and changing the lyrics to ‘Si Woo Kim shakin that a–’ at the press conference after winning the 2017 Presidents Cup.
The outpouring of emotion from Kim showed the enormous effort the win took and the reminder from the caddie showed that there are still two more days of play left in the Presidents Cup. Si Woo Kim will for sure be a big part of the two days as the Internationals chase the second win in Presidents Cup history.
