When the Wonderful World of Golf began in the early 60s, they would have never imagined witnessing something historic at one of their events. The 1963 Pebble Beach event is still considered the most legendary match because of the quality of players dueled in the tournament. Jack Nicklaus and Sam Snead went head to head until one of them won the title.
Nicklaus joined the PGA Tour in 1962, a year before the Palm Springs Classic event of 1963. However, he had already begun the major championship hunt in his rookie year. He had won the 1962 US Open, the first of the 18 of his career. Although he was just 23 back then, everyone knew his potential to be one of the best in history.

Snead was 50 when he competed against Nicklaus at the Palm Springs. However, his age was just a number considering his success in the PGA Tour. The golfer had already won 81 out of his 82 PGA Tour titles while he was playing at Pebble Beach.

It was legendary in all sense. The already established golfer Sam Snead and monster rookie Jack Nicklaus was playing head to head. In the end, Nicklaus won the tournament by one stroke but not before showcasing an extreme battle between two talents.
A match that spanned generations.

It was a nail-biting tournament. It all came to luck when Snead’s ball stuck to the edge of the hole, refusing to go inside. Even the spectators were stunned to see the ball not go in. The luck was in the young golfer’s side as his ball easily found the hole.

Fans thought the tournament was a legendary one considering two of the best golfers of all time were playing against each other. One of them wrote: “Such a legendary footage.”
