The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is underway at St. Andrews this weekend. A host of star names such as Rory McIlroy, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Tommy Fleetwood, among others, form a part of the 156-member field. But it was Swedish golfer, Alex Noren, who grabbed the headlines after his extremely lucky shot that went from bouncing its way to the greens after an absurd deflection.

The incident occurred in the final round of one of the wealthiest events of the DP Tour (formerly the European Tour). 40-year-old Noren, a member of the victorious 2018 Ryder Cup team with Team Europe, managed to stay in the upper echelons of the standings before the final day’s play. The Jupiter resident carried on the good form and was ranked 3rd with a score of 13-under par before the blessed shot.

At the final hole of the event, Noren drove his tee shot wide and hit the boundary railings, which were supposed to keep the spectators at bay. The ball could have deflected anywhere after striking the railings at a furious pace, but instead chose to roll over to the greens.

The winner of ten tournaments on the DP Tour was left with a simple putt after the ball had ceased its motion after the initial shot. The chain of events mesmerized onlookers and announcers alike, with one commentator exclaiming, “I don’t believe it” before arguing about the unbelievable bounce off the railings.

Meanwhile, the household names participating in the competition failed to make an impression. The English duo of Fitzpatrick and Fleetwood, considered favorites before the tournament, finished tied at a mediocre 28th and 22nd, respectively. World No.2 Rory McIlroy, on the other hand, challenged actively for the title, eventually securing a fourth-place rank shared with French golfer Antoine Rozner.
