Just a few hours remain until the 2023 Open Championship comes to an end. Many golfers have already finished round 4, and a tentative ranking is already in place. However, the winner has yet to be declared. While it is still a mystery as to who will take home the prestigious Claret Jug this year, it has been memorable so far.
Several pro golfers have experienced a decline in their performance, while others have soared with unbelievably low scores. The defending champion, Cameron Smith, unfortunately was part of the latter. However, amid all the stress, the Aussie golfer remains optimistic!

Smith hasn’t had the best luck this season, but he is in high spirits. His first three rounds saw 72s both on Thursday and Friday, followed by a 68 on Saturday. On Sunday, he was progressing steadily, albeit with bogeys on the 4th, 7th, and 9th.
Despite the disappointing strokes even in the finals, Cameron Smith’s light-hearted attitude is refreshing on the golf course. While passing a reporter from Sky Sports who was reading the names on the Claret Jug, the Aussie golfer made a hilarious gesture to draw his attention.
“All the greats, Nicklaus, Palmer, Player, Trevino, Ballesteros, Faldo…” the reporter started reading when Smith jovially drew his attention. Although he was outside the frame, it appeared that he reminded the man that his name was there as well. The reporter acknowledged it, saying, “Smith, exactly! Wasn’t going to forget that one, don’t worry.”

Smith was seen a second later turning back and smiling at the man while he continued to honor the defending champion, who held the trophy last year. With this hilarious move on the links at Royal Liverpool, the Australian star has flaunted his upbeat nature! It shows that no matter the circumstance, he cannot be brought down mentally.

Just before the 151st Open Championship was about to commence, the Aussie golfer had to return his prized possession after holding it for a year. And while doing so, Smith left no stone unturned when it came to style and pizazz. The LIV star arrived at the site in a Mercedes Benz Vision EQXX to hand over the cup to the authorities.
The golfing community speculated at the time that he would probably defend his title. With his name already etched on the Claret Jug and his steadfast development on the golf course, it seemed like a possibility. Sadly, the conditions in Hoylake due to rain and wind did not favor the returning champion this season.
