Five years ago, a Guinness world record was set for the ‘fastest hole of golf by a team of four. This month, at the same course and hole, four European Tour golfers attempted to break that record at the Hero Challenge 2021.

The attempt took place on the 4 hole at the Real Club Valderrama golf course in Sotogrande, Cadiz, Spain. Sean Crocker (US), Min Woo Lee (Australia), Wilco Nienaber, (South Africa) and Nicolai Højgaard (Denmark) were the four who took on the challenge on October 12, 2021.

And they were successful! They beat the previous record of 27.88, set by an American team, by almost three seconds. Let’s see what went down on the course.

European Tour golfers set a new golf world record of 24.75 seconds

The 501 yard 4 hole at Valderrama golf club is where the action went down. The record to beat was 27.88 seconds set a few years ago. And it was definitely not as easy as one might think. It took many disappointing close attempts and two hours of time to achieve what they did.

Before they began, they attempted to strategize and figure out the best possible route to the hole. Eventually, every player took their position. Nienaber took the tee, Crocker stood out in the fairway, and Lee and Højgaard stood on the green. Many shots went into the bunker, water, and the rough until finally, everyone played their part flawlessly.

They started off at exactly 3:47pm. The first attempt was going surprisingly well, till it hit the green. Then, however, the pressure got to them and the putts refused to go in. After countless poor drives and chips, it was soon 4:38pm and still, they had no success!

Finally, one attempt came disappointingly close at 28 seconds. Subsequently, at 5:55, they finally did it! Nienaber drove the ball an enormous distance of 361 yards. Crocker set the ball a couple of feet off the hole with a 140 yard second shot. A drive, a chip and a single putt, all under 24.75 seconds!
