The former professional golfer, Paige Spiranac, has established herself as a successful social media influencer. With her online presence, the 29-year-old is accustomed to getting negative comments every now and then. However, did you know that she also sometimes gets death threats online because of her online posts? 

“I was getting death threats because they said that I was ruining women’s golf,” Spiranac revealed. Even as a professional golfer, she used to post golf instructional videos and other golf-related content online. While her followers enjoyed watching them, some claimed that she was s**ualising women’s golf and criticized her.

“Death threats, people harassing me and my family,” she said when she appeared as a guest on the Bunkered Golf Podcast. “And telling me, they wanted to kill me because I was horrible for women’s golf and putting the progression of women back a hundred years.”  

What does Paige Spiranac think about getting death threats online? 

“I don’t know if it’s funny or sad, but I’m so desensitized to it now,” Spiranac revealed. According to her, she doesn’t realize what is funny and what are threat comments anymore. 

As part of engaging with her followers, Spiranac has begun to post the messages people have sent her on her Instagram stories under the name Thirsty Thursday. And according to her, what she thought were funny messages, some of her followers found alarming.

The ‘Thirsty Thursday’ series helped her realize how many negative messages she receives online. And it also helped her followers to realize what she goes through. “Since I started doing that,” she revealed in the Bunkered Golf Podcast. “All of the messages that have been coming in are actually really nice.” 

Spiranac’s journey from being a professional golfer to a social media star

Born in 1993, Paige Renee Spiranac dreamed of becoming a professional golfer after an injury led her to quit gymnastics. Notably, she was a prolific golfer during her amateur days and was the captain of the women’s golf team in college.

She started posting trick-shot videos and photos online during her college days and instantly became popular. Spiranac’s popularity and fame led her to become a professional golfer, although she chose to retire soon in just two years after not finding any remarkable success. 

After quitting golf, Spiranac concentrated on becoming a full-time social media influencer. Years later, the 29-year-old has established herself in the field with more than 10 million followers across all social media platforms.
