2017 was not an easy year for Lexi Thompson. She lost a chance to win her second major title at the ANA Inspiration (the Chevron Championship) in April after being assessed a four-shot penalty mid-round for an infringement she had committed a day before. And a couple of months later, her mother, Judy Thompson, was diagnosed with uterine cancer.

It was more than tough for a 22-year-old to watch her mother go through such pain. However, the determination of Judy Thompson to not let her children give up their career path due to her illness helped the golfer to play again.

It was not the first time Judy Thompson was diagnosed with cancer. She had breast cancer 11 years before she got uterine cancer. The medical process would have made 1-time major champion’s mother wait another couple months after the diagnosis before getting treatment.

However, with the help of another LPGA player, Morgan Pressel, she got the treatment and could remove the cancer in only a week. Notably, Pressel lost her mother to breast cancer when she was only 15 and had started a foundation to raise awareness and money to fight it.
