Among the many notable names in women’s golf, Michelle Wie West is certainly high on the list. Having spent 14 years on the LPGA Tour, she cemented her name as one of the best players in women’s golf. But in recent years, West hasn’t taken to the course as often, and for nearly a year now, she’s retired from her role as a pro golfer. And it was all for one reason: her new role as a mother!
Michelle Wie West voices her hardships as a mother
Back in June 2020, the ex-pro golfer gave birth to her first and only child, a daughter named Makenna Kamalei Yoona West. Ever since then, she’s been all about family, which includes her husband, Johnnie West, and 2-year-old Makenna. Johnnie is a former NBA star and now serves as the Director of Basketball Operations for the thriving Golden State Warriors. It’s safe to say that Makenna has a few athletic genes!

Since her daughter was born, West’s time on tour has reduced dramatically. And in June last year, she played her final round of golf at the Women’s US Open. Ever since the LPGA star has been finding herself and exploring with her family. Through her social media posts, fans have a great insight into her and have recently even witnessed her troubles.
Just hours ago, the one-time major winner posted on Instagram talking about the issues of flying with a baby. “5.5 hour flights with a toddler is simply…survival…,” she wrote in her story. But her trouble didn’t end there. Recently, she once again took to Instagram and announced that “waking up at 3:30 am” was one of her routines now that she was back home. Almost certainly a practice that’s set in because of her 2-year-old daughter.

Undoubtedly, motherhood has taken a toll on the 33-year-old. With surviving long flights and barely getting sleep, she is certainly still exploring her way through life as a mother. And of course, it’s no easy road. But if there’s anyone who can conquer what she sets her eyes on, it’s the West! And as per her post, it has not been tense since she left the sport.
The 5-time LPGA Tour winner now also has time on her hands to relax and even reminisce about the past, like she did recently and shared with her fans. “My favorite part about coming home. All the old photos,” she wrote in her story, posting a childhood photo of herself right before mentioning her early morning wake-up call times.
