The Wyndham Championship which is currently being held at Sedgefield Country Club in North Carolina, is the last event on the PGA Tour’s regular season. The event and the weekend are of crucial importance for many A-list players who stand a chance to move on next week to the FedEx Cup Playoffs based on their performance this week.

The FedEx Cup comes with a total prize money of a whopping $75 million. And the Wyndham Championship will finally decide who the 70 players are who’ll make it to the playoffs. Let’s take a look at the five notable players who are vying for a spot next week.

Adam Scott – The Australian golfer is among those who haven’t been able to make a position in the top 70 players as of yet. In two days, he has given a better performance. In the second round, he made 1-over 71 and has fallen down to T31. If he wishes to enter the Cup, he needs to improve his name on the leaderboard. A two-way tie for the second and the ninth spot could do wonders for him.

Justin ThomasDown on his luck for this season, another big contender for the FedEx Cup is Justin Thomas. His appalling performances in three major tournaments this year have raised many eyebrows. However, he is really concentrating this week and finished the second round with 5-under 65, and after the second round is sitting on T21. Justin has never missed the playoffs in his career but this time he has to work really hard to reach there. A solo third finish or above it at Wyndham could be the ticket to Olympia for Thomas.

Billy Horschel – The toughest challenge this week belongs to Billy Horschel who is sitting on the 131st spot in total strokes which is quite disappointing because last season he finished 25th in that category. In the FedExCup points he is 116. But the 36 years old seems to be doing well at the event. He wrapped the second round with an 8-under 62 and was 11th on the scoreboard. Horschel will be needing a two-way tie on the second spot for the playoffs.

Shane Lowry – Lowry is 76th in the FedExCup points, making him the closest to finding an entry if he performs well. Though he missed the cut at the Open Championship, he did well in other tournaments like the Travelers Championship and Scottish Open. At Wyndham in the first round, he finished with 2-under 68 and was on T28. In the second round, he made birdies on three holes and one bogey on the par-4 1st. After the second he is on T19. He will need a two-way tie for 23rd with help or a solo third to excel this week.

Gary Woodland – Woodland entered the tournament as 97th on the FedExCup list. Gary is sitting outside the top 175 in strokes gained on the green and putting in this season. At the event, he made a birdie on the par-4 9th hole during the second day. After the second round, he is sitting on T40. He will need either a solo second or two-way tie for third or above to make it through this week.
