Viktor Hovland is a glowing star on the PGA Tour circuit. Ever since he turned pro in 2019, he has never ceased to amaze his fans with spectacular deliveries. He has several career wins, despite the gap in his resume in lieu of the pandemic right after he turned professional. He secured two of the 5 titles in the 2022-23 season at the Hero World Challenge and the BMW Championship.

Since finishing in 1st place in the second of three FedEx Cup playoffs, the Norwegian has elevated his game tremendously. He has not yet let himself slip as he prepares to tee off at the Tour Championship hosted in Atlanta’s East Coast Golf Course. His history with the Tour Championship has been quite the roller coaster ride.

When the calmest golfer on the American circuit first turned pro, he did not have the opportunity to play at the Tour Championship during the 2018-19 season. Most games were halted in light of COVID-19 and the ban on large gatherings, which prevented the rookie golfer from gathering enough FedEx Points.

He made up for that as one of 8 rookies in the 2019-20 season where he started his run at the playoffs as one of the top FedEx Cup rankers at the Northern Trust 2020. It was his first time in the FedEx Cup playoffs, which in itself is a testament to his skills. He made it to the finale with a 20-position jump since his T40 finish at the 2020 BMW Championship and finished in T20 at the Tour Championship.

The 2020-21 season witnessed a massive improvement in Hovland. The Norwegian golfer steadily inched up the ranks through the Northern Trust event and the BMW Championship till he made it into the Tour Championship. In the finale of the FedEx Cup playoffs that year, he finished in the top 5, tying for a 5th place with Xander Schauffele with a total score of 14-under par.

Last year, when Rory McIlroy claimed the title, the 25-year-old golfer from Oslo sadly trickled down the ranks as compared to his performance in the previous year. The Northern Trust event was replaced by the FedEx St. Judes. He qualified for the BMW Championship with T18 but dropped to T35 at the end of the event. Miraculously, he made it as the top 30 golfers to compete in the Tour Championship in the following week, where he finished in T15 alongside Jon Rahm, J.T Poston, and Matt Fitzpatrick.

At this season’s final FedEx Cup playoff, Hovland is leading round 3 with 8-under 132 on the 70-par course in East Lake. he holds his position steadily with a total of 16-under in the combined events of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Although he is tied for first place with Collin Morikawa, the Norwegian golfer is strongly inching towards the prestigious win at the Tour Championship days after claiming the $3.6 Million title at the BMW Championship last week.

Hovland and Morikawa are scheduled to tee off for the third round at 3 p.m. in Atlanta, Georgia. The Californian golfer is also vying for his first FedEx Cup win, so the competition is intriguing. Hovland shot consecutive birdies in round 2 to finish with 6-under 64. He needs to maintain the pace in order to clinch the title.

Viktor Hovland accumulated quite a lot from FedEx Cup winnings

The Norwegian golfer has made $26,689,778 in career winnings on the PGA Tour. Even though he only had one T5 finish at the Tour Championship in the 4 seasons he played, he amassed a massive sum from FedEx Cup winnings alone. From 2020 to 2023, he has won $4,524,392 from the Northern Trust event, the FedEx St. Judes, and the BMW Championship alone, which includes his $3.6 Million victory last week.

At the Tour Championship last year, he took home $715,000 with his T15 tied finish. When he tied for T5 with Xander Schauffele in 2021, he earned $2,200,000, and in his rookie year, he made $497,000. If he wins this week, he will claim a massive $18 Million. Hovland is already ranking 5th on the OWGR and has a substantial gain in FedEx Cup rankings. If he continues to accumulate winnings as such, he will take leaps forward on the PGA Tour’s infamous career money list as well.
