The transition from the top of the golf swing to hitting the ball is probably the most crucial part. Most amateurs and maybe sometimes the professionals make mistakes during the downswing, which results in bad shots. One of the golf legends, Ben Hogan, once gave an insightful golf lesson about the same.

PGA Tour recently uploaded a video containing a valuable lesson by Hogan. The Tour tweeted about the same through their official Twitter account on May 25th, 2022. PGA Tour uploaded the video with a few lines that said, “One of the smoothest swings the game has ever seen. Class is in session with Ben Hogan.”
Ben Hogan reveals the crucial part of the golf swing
Ben Hogan, a 64-time PGA Tour winner and a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, emphasized the correct transition from the top to the point when the club contacts the ball. At the same time, he explained the importance of getting the hips involved in the golf swing instead of using the shoulders first while moving down.
In the golf lesson, Hogan said, “The most important thing in a golf swing to me is the movement of the lower body from the top of the swing. First off, you start down below your knees and your hips. At the top of the swing, you move the lower part of your body, not your shoulders, the lower part of your body, letting your arms and hands follow, bringing you into position to hit.”
He added, “But this is the first movement there. Then you release it at the bottom. Most people do it entirely opposite. They rotate their shoulders first instead of their lower body. As a result, they come across the ball and hit the outside of the ball instead of the back of it.”

Hogan’s words prove the crucial role that the hips play in hitting efficient golf shots. At the same time, it also shows how the transition from the top of the golf swing and correct rotation of the hips are vital to improving one’s golf game. This is arguably one of the most critical golf lessons ever.
Are the best Hogan irons good?
The Ben Hogan PTX Pro Irons have a traditional yet elegant look. They are made up of the 1025 carbon steel and are Forged irons. Moreover, the good thing about these irons is that they are usually suitable for low-handicap players and can significantly improve their golf game. Compared to the cavity back irons, they aren’t ideal for high handicap golfers as they are less forgiving. As a result, the PTX Pro Irons are best suited to low-handicappers.
