With a limited number of players joining LIV Golf, it is strange to see the existing ones leaving. While the unlikely has happened, Eugenio Chacarra has left the Saudi-backed league. After joining the league in June 2022, his two-year contract was coming to an end. Surprisingly, the Fireballs team’s captain Sergio Garcia did not retain him. Instead of him, another Spaniard, Luis Masaveu, took his place.
The 24-year-old seemed frustrated after the decision and had shared about it in the interviews with Flushing It Golf. He shared the downside of joining LIV and the promises not met. But surprisingly, days after his statements, the golfer, at his first appearance, had something different to share for the league.
With the ongoing International Series India, he shared about his performance, course, and LIV Golf. Unlike the past statements, this time he chooses to take the side of the league. The post shared on X by Flushing It Golf had a detailed conversation with the golfer. The Spanish professional expressed his plans to participate in the Asian Tour before attempting for the PGA Tour membership next year.

Currently, he is leading with under par 4 score along with the Japanese golfer Higa Kazuki. He shared about his game, saying, “I did a great job staying calm. I know my game is there. I know my game is going to come out, whether it’s this week, next week, or in 3 months, I know it’s there. I’m enjoying golf again, I’m happy on the course and really enjoying the game of the golf.”

A shocking part of his interview came in after he took the side of LIV Golf. Even after ending his contract with LIV Golf, Chacarra did not stop praising the PIF league. The grudges he had earlier seemed to have faded as per his statements. He thankingly voiced out, “So like I always said, I am very, very, very thankful for LIV. I am a LIV Golf fan. I’m going to keep watching LIV and I’m going to keep supporting the Fireballs. I am very thankful for what Sergio and the Fireballs did for me the last 3 years, but I think it was time for me to move on and I think it’s already passed in my mind.”
Sharing further, he expressed his goals and how he wants to succeed. But what struck the fans was his surprising turn from his past statements, sharing frustration.

What did Eugenio Chacarra say about LIV Golf?
The gratitude-filled statements of the golfers weren’t the same when the news of his contract expiration came to him. Instead, the Spaniard shared his frustration during his interviews with Flushing It Golf and Hugo Costa, a journalist for Golf Channel Latin America. Chacarra, who joined the league with his world no. 2 rank in the amateur world, was expected to be the future of LIV Golf, but by 2025 he has turned out to be the past of LIV.
Sharing about the PGA Tour, he expressed the opportunity to get access to major and ranking. While talking about LIV he said, “On LIV, nothing changes, there is only money. It doesn’t matter if you finish 30th or first, only money. I’m not a guy who wants more money. What will change my life is playing in Hawaii and qualifying for the majors, qualifying for the Masters, the Ryder Cup.”

Even further, he expressed about the promise not being met. “When I joined LIV they promised OWGR and majors. But it didn’t happen. I trusted them. I was the first young guy, then the others came after I made the decision. But OWGR and majors still hasn’t happened.” Chacarra said.
Now with the league still struggling to offer the OWGR ranking points to the players and access to the majors. The promise to other players might have not changed, but what has changed is the contract terms for Eugenio Chacarra. What are your thoughts on the golfer not being retained?
