A few years ago, former World No. 1 and two-time major winner Justin Thomas suffered a grave skin cancer scare. Thankfully, for the golfer, early detection prevented the situation from further going south. Since then, the 30-year-old has always used his platform to spread awareness, even doing the same during last month’s Wells Fargo Championship.

Just like Thomas, golfing legend Jack Nicklaus is also heavily involved in alerting people about the dangers of skin cancer. Now, another renowned golfer has joined the cause, taking to social media on Friday to share a highly crucial message with fans!

For golfers, spending hour after hour on the sun-drenched courses comes with an increased risk of the extremely serious and fatal health condition, skin cancer. In the past, PGA Tour pros Adam Scott and Rory Sabbatini have all undergone bouts of skin cancer. In fact, in 2010, Sabbatini had to have a squamous cell carcinoma surgically removed from his face.

Consequently, professional golfers often publicly voice the dangers that are part and parcel of playing an outdoor sport. Now, Spain’s Miguel Angel Jimenez, who is currently playing at the Principal Charity Classic, has also joined the cause to spread the word about skin cancer. On Saturday, @pgatourchampions uploaded a clip on Instagram that showed Jimenez taking part in a screening test for the disease.

It’s very important for us, being out here every day, hours in the sun for so many years,” the golfer further reflected after his screening test. Jimenez’s precautionary message comes a month after 15-time PGA Tour winner Justin Thomas shed light on his experience with a potential melanoma scare.

In 2019, a visit to the dermatologist became a life-altering experience for Justin Thomas. It led to him finding out that he was in the early stages of melanoma, a form of skin cancer. Subsequently, Thomas underwent surgery to remove the mole on his left leg. “Luckily, we found it at a time where there should be no problems going forward. That being said, EVERYBODY GO GET CHECKED,” the golfer had written on Instagram about the incident.

Since his own experience, Thomas has made significant strides toward helping people fight skin cancer. He has even created his own suncare line called WearSPF. The two-time Wanamaker Trophy winner also talked about the product during the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship. “I think it’s a really cool opportunity to spread awareness of people of all ages, especially people like you know, myself and golfers athletes that are out in the sun all the time,” Thomas said.

Golfing legend Jack Nicklaus has also joined the fight against skin cancer. Last month, Nicklaus Companies, which has the 18-time major winner at the helm of affairs, took to Instagram to highlight the American Skin Association’s endeavors to combat the fatal disease.
