Golf has always been a traditional and calm sport that flaunts individual skill. However, with its team events, LIV Golf changed that perception. And now it plans to add even more excitement to the mix with its latest move. By 2024, The Saudi side is thinking of letting teams trade players just like it’s done in basketball and soccer.

In 2023, no players were traded, but some issues in Team Smash GC showed why trades could be useful. There were clashes between Brooks Koepka and Matthew Wolff, for example, that made headlines. Many now believe that trading could prove beneficial in cases like this.

LIV Golf’s trading rules are fairly simple to understand. Players can only be traded if they agree. Moreover, both the league and the teams involved in the trade would have to sign off on it. Earlier, the trading of players was done on a free-agency basis, not according to the new policy on monetary terms. Trades might happen for various reasons. If a player isn’t doing well, a new team might help. Or sometimes, players might just want a change.

Although the concept may be very familiar to other sports, LIV’s trading will also be different! With only 12 teams and 48 players, every trade will be a big deal. Money, future team success, and player preferences will all matter to the players.

The likes of Bryson DeChambeau think players might be traded if they’re not playing well. On the other side, Peter Uihlein, who joined a new team in 2022, believes trades can be about more than just performance. However, one thing is certain: everyone, including fans, has opinions on it.
