The LPGA season might still be on pause, but for many players, the off-season is anything but a break. Charley Hull, for instance, has been keeping herself busy—and not just with workouts. From her social media updates to collaborations, Hull’s been staying active. But her latest collab? Well, let’s just say fans have some thoughts.

Hull recently collaborated with Gabby Golf Girl for a 1v1 stroke play match at the Floridian golf course in South Florida. The match, filmed during a TaylorMade shoot, was part of Gabby’s popular YouTube series. But while these collaborations are crucial for athletes to stay relevant, not everyone was sold on Hull’s enthusiasm—or lack thereof.

One fan didn’t hold back, saying: “Well I don’t think Charley Hull’s personality is suited for social media, maybe she just wanted to get it over with. High five to Gabby for making the video watchable and funny that Charley duffed the first shot!” Ouch. But that’s not true entirely. Hull has a solid presence on Instagram, with 711k followers and plenty of activity to keep fans engaged. So, while it might seem like this wasn’t her best performance, she’s no stranger to the social media game.

Another fan chimed in with a similar critique: “No chemistry between the two but not Gabby’s fault. Entire thing seemed very awkward.” It’s hard to argue with that. We’ve seen Hull much more enthusiastic in other settings, so this just didn’t feel like her at her best. She did manage to sink a putt by the end of the match, though, so there’s that!

Of course, some fans speculated on her motivations for the collab. One comment read: “You could tell Hull was just just doing this to satisfy her Sponsors. She would rather be sleeping on the plane back to the UK.” Who can’t relate to wanting a little extra sleep during the holidays, right? Hull signed a multiyear extension with TaylorMade in 2022 and was more than happy to do so. “I am delighted to extend my partnership with TaylorMade. The equipment and service I receive is unmatched and to be a part of a company that is always striving to produce the best performance products in golf, means that I always feel one step ahead of my competitors,” said Hull at the time. Time and again, the golfer is seen in TaylorMade’s social media campaign.

And well, where there is Hull there is her nicotine stick. So yeah even in the video she was seen taking a puff and obviously, fans took notice. A user wrote, “Charlie smoking around a kid during golf. No f@$&s given. I see Gabby as one of the top ambassadors of golf.” Another couldn’t resist a sarcastic jab, writing, “Amazing all the comments Charley receives on her smoking, she is not doing anything illegal. Charley should have a match with John Daly” Now well, we all saw this one coming. This comparison to Daly isn’t new. Hull has often been jokingly dubbed “John Daly’s sister” thanks to their shared love for a smoke on the course.

Have an interesting take?

While this collaboration may not have been Hull’s finest moment, fans are still eager to see her back on the greens.

When will Charley Hull make her debut in the new season?

Speaking of hitting the greens, Hull’s 2024 season had its ups and downs. The two-time LPGA winner had her moments but couldn’t quite clinch a victory on the LPGA Tour. Sure, her winless streak was a bit of a bummer, but she did put up some solid performances. Out of 17 events, Hull made the cut 15 times and finished in the top 10 in five tournaments. The best among them? A tie for second place at The ANNIKA. Impressive yet, not enough to be called a great season.

Now, with a fresh season ahead, Hull has the perfect chance to hit reset and chase that elusive win. So, when will we see her back in action? If her past schedule is any clue, the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions seems like a good place to start. She’s played this event for the past two years, and after her strong showing there in 2023, it wouldn’t be a shock to see her back. And how can we not mention, there’s a $2,000,000 purse on the line? This year’s edition is happening from January 30 to February 2, 2025, at the Lake Nona Golf Course.

If Hull decides to tee it up, it could be the perfect opportunity to set the tone for 2025.
