The USGA and R&A are reportedly expected to change the regulations regarding the rollback distance in the sport. The said changes would come for all amateur and elite players and are expected to make every popular golf ball that is played by both professional and recreational players to be “non-conforming”.

As per reports from multiple industry sources, the equipment would be tested if it would conform to the new rules. Moreover, the assessment for the Overall Distance Standard would see an increase in the swing speed to 125 mph from the current standard of 120 mph all the while keeping the distance limit of 317 yards the same.

Well, the game is soon going to experience a lot of changes since those closer to the standards would soon see themselves labeled as “non-conforming” and would require them to be changed. What’s more, the change comes after years of discussions with stakeholders in the industry following previous proposals including the infamous Model Local Rule, which saw a lot of opposition by many.

The MLR was introduced to shorten the distance that was hit by many golfers including the likes of Bryson DeChambeau and others. Moreover, it was designed to change the way golf balls are made and tested. However, even the commissioner of the PGA Tour was visibly against this change.

During a Players Advisory Committee, the official stated how there was a “widespread and significant belief that the proposed MLR is not warranted and is not in the best interest of the game.” Besides, the commissioner himself pointed out how they would not support the proposed MLR despite being committed to collaborating with the various industry partners involved.
