When thinking about the best-ever professional swimmers in the world, the first name that strikes the head is Michael Phelps. The former American competitive swimmer is one of the most decorated Olympians of all time. However, a change of interests is a real thing and the same has been happening with Phelps post-retirement. After being super successful in his field, the former Olympic gold medalist is loving the adrenaline he gets from playing golf. And he recently explained his honest experience about being on the field and playing his best shots among other professionals.

Phelps was in a recent episode of the 8 AM Golf Panel podcast and was asked about his experience on the field. And his reaction explained how much fun he was having playing rounds with some of the best players around him. However, being number 1 in a different sport has made it “frustrating” for him to start things over in golf. “I did something for, you know, two plus decades where I had great success. And now I’m out there and I literally struggle on top of countless shots” he said.

Phelps also talked about how he manages to handle the pressure of being surrounded by golf legends along with tons of their fans. “I feel like…the more confident I am. The more relaxed I am, the more I’m able just to be me and play the shots that I play,” Phelps said. During the conversation, Phelps was also asked about how it felt for him to start from square one in golf after being the best at another sport. “It’s hard as hell,” he said. “But…I just love the game”

Moreover, Phelps also explained the “dead honest truth” about his nervousness during the game when he hears the crowd “booing”. He said“You just try to relax,…My hands are shaking when I’m putting the tee in the ground…I could ramble for days.”. But despite all his struggles, Phelps knows how to stay relaxed on the field. The former professional swimmer has made ample records in his sport and has left behind tons of other legendary swimmers. But it might be a little hard for him to reach heights in his newfound favorite sport. The world of golf has numerous legends who are struggling to stay on top in the field. And with such competition, Phelps might find it tough to match their level.
