Son-in-Law Dustin Johnson Gets a Reality Check Through Wayne Gretzky’s Golfing Sweetheart After Not Making the Open Championship Cut

Dustin Johnson had a tough fate at the Open Championship a week ago. The LIV defector has previously made the top 10 at the tournament but has never won it. And this year also turned out to be a bust, as he failed to make the cut. Unfortunately for the golf pro, his below-par streak continues!

While he may have been hoping for a quick revival, after his disappointing week, Johnson is facing the reality of life, as that’s far from the case. In fact, he now suffers from yet another subtle upset, and it comes at the hands of one of his own family members—his mother-in-law!

Johnson has married into a family of athletes! Last year, he tied the knot with his partner, Paulina Gretzky. Though Paulina is not actively involved in any sports, she is the daughter of Canadian ice hockey player Wayne Gretzky and his wife, Janet Gretzky.

And now it seems like Wayne’s beloved wife is adding more laurels to the family’s history. While DJ was not able to bring home a trophy last week, adding yet another upset to his list, Janet did. And it was a shiny golf trophy nonetheless!

Wayne Gretzky and Janet recently competed in the Showcase Golf Exhibition at the Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course in Idaho, which benefits the Community Cancer Fund. And as you can guess, DJ’s mother-in-law took home the win, while Wayne finished the event with 39 points, nearly 20 points behind her.

This is the fourth time in nine years that Janet has taken the title home. The win was made even more special since just two days ago, her brother got operated on for cancer! “This one touched home a lot,” she said. “Two days ago, my older brother Johnny had a big cancerous kidney taken out. And he’s going to fight the war and so it really hit home.”

Justin enjoys the support of his in-laws, who have often shown up at his tournaments. As per Janet, he also plays golf with them at their house in Idaho. Janet further shared, “We love Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and the people here. We’ve got a home here at Gozzer Ranch, and we love golfing, with Dustin being our son-in-law, so the entire family loves golfing.”

At the event, Janet beat the likes of Vince Coleman, Jerome Bettis, and Dustin Pedroia with a score of 57 points.
