Is Brooks Koepka's absence the reason behind LIV Golfers' Olympic struggles? What's your take?

OWGR points. Or its lack thereof has truly caused a dent in the plans of many LIV Golf Pros. This is especially the case with the American golfers who didn’t even have a chance to qualify for the Olympics owing to the lack of points being offered to the PIF-funded circuit. But there’s one athlete who seems to be enjoying himself off the course, despite the snub. Enter Brooks Koepka with his wife, Jena Sims!

The athlete’s wife shared a story on Instagram with a picture of the couple spending time with their friends on her handle. The snap, interestingly, showcases the golfer kissing his adorable partner while on vacation in Rovinj, Old Town, while the rest of his friends pose for the camera. Truly adorable, one might say!

Many LIV golfers, including Koepka, were forced out of contention for the Olympic spot while their counterparts on the PGA Tour managed to qualify for the same. Even Bryson DeChambeau, who emerged victorious at the 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2, failed to get a spot on the American team while the likes of Wyndham Clark and Collin Morikawa clinched theirs.

The ‘Scientist’ had even expressed the desire for a separate tournament to manage the qualifications for the quadrennial event. When asked about the same ahead of the LIV Golf UK event, he replied,  “Yeah, potentially. I don’t know the ins and outs of that but from my perspective…I could foresee something like that happening, there being a tournament.”

Brooks Koepka, on the other hand, had withdrawn from being considered for the Olympic spots alongside Tyrrell Hatton and Adam Scott. They reportedly requested to opt out of the 2024 Olympics while urging the International Golf Federation to drop his name from the same. Well, one can’t blame the golfer, especially after witnessing his current status on the OWGR.

Brooks Koepka and his fall in the OWGR in 2024

The athlete entered 2024 at No. 33 in the rankings. Although he did emerge victorious at the LIV Golf event in Singapore, the Saudi-backed league having no OWGR backing caused him to rake in zero points for the win. Moreover, his finishes in the four major championships were also not enough for the American professional to climb the world rankings. Truly unfortunate!

Have an interesting take?

The 34-year-old finished a T45 at the Masters Tournament, a T26 at the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open, and a T43 at the 152nd Open Championship. These placements could only earn the LIV Golf Pro dismal points, causing him to drop as low as No. 55 on the Official World Golf Rankings. Regardless of the current situation, if he is to clinch an Olympic spot the next time around, then Brooks Koepka will either have to step up his game at the majors or hope for the OWGR to acknowledge the Middle Eastern circuit. Which will happen first? Only time can tell!
