“I think some of it wasn’t very justified,” expressed a fed-up Wyndham Clark after the Olympics. The golfer was alluding to the hate he received online for the Olympic spot he got instead of Bryson DeChambeau. Regardless of the backlash, the American pro made sure to convey how he “played really good golf this week.” With Scottie Scheffler winning the gold medal, one would think the criticism would have stopped. However, that hasn’t been the case.

The golfer mentioned how the criticism he received was unreasonable. “I was the third-highest ranked player for the U.S. to come here,” said Wyndham Clark, “I don’t think it has anything to do with attending events or not attending events.” The athlete also pointed out how this was potentially a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” which, in turn, pushed him to make sure he did everything he could. “I don’t regret anything I did,” said the 30-year-old, “Once I got to Tuesday, I shut everything down and was ready to go.”

Well, that’s what the PGA Tour Pro appears to have done. And the result? A T14 finish tied with Denmark’s Thorbjørn Olesen, courtesy of his 11-under 273 over the four days of play. Wyndham Clark was able to dish out the same owing to his figures of 75-68-65-65 that came from his 24 birdies, 5 bogeys, and 4 double bogeys over the four rounds. Even so, the finish he carded just below Xander Schauffele (T9 at 12-under) wasn’t enough to appease the fans.

Fans dish out brutal verdict, choose Bryson DeChambeau over Wyndham Clark again

The recently ended Olympics witnessed the American Scheffler raking in the Gold medal. Meanwhile, Tommy Fleetwood from Great Britain and Hideki Matsuyama from Japan clinched the silver and the bronze medals respectively. The 2024 Masters champ dished out a figure of 19-under while the other two could only card an 18-under and a 17-under. Some fans were still left unsatisfied, despite the scintillating finish by America. For they commented, “We could have gone Gold, Silver with Bryson baby.”

Bryson DeChambeau has had a scintillating season in the majors. Although he missed the cut at the Open Championship, the LIV Golf Pro finished a T6 at the Masters, runner up at the PGA Championship while winning the 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst. That’s not all, he was also able to jump from the 210th spot on the OWGR before the major at Augusta to the 9th spot after the four prestigious events. Consequently, a couple of fans couldn’t help but allude to the same while responding, “Still would have rather had Bryson over Hotel Boy,” and “I don’t dislike Wyndham Clark in any way I just think Bryson was more deserving of the opportunity.”

Wyndham Clark, on the other hand, didn’t do so well in the majors. The PGA Tour Pro could only place himself at a sub-par T56 at the U.S. Open while missing the cut at the Masters, the PGA Championship, and the Open. His six top-10 finishes from 19 starts didn’t help either. A couple of followers of the sport reacted in nothing short of a brutal manner; “T14 in a field with less than 60, yeah okay helps his cut, cut, T56, cut for the majors,” and “Nope he still sucks.”

Well, it appears Wyndham Clark will have to “shut everything down” once again just like he did at the Olympics event for men’s golf. What’s more, he will also have to prove himself to the community so that they can tone down the hate. But do not worry, for the FedEx Cup playoffs are coming up. His fans would surely be hoping for a comeback!
