If there’s anyone who has been consistent over the four days at Le Golf National, it’s Tommy Fleetwood. The athlete has managed to stay at the top rungs of the scoreboard despite other golfers moving up and down on the same. However, the fans weren’t too pleased. The reason? Well, it appears the BBC hasn’t properly covered the golfer’s performance.

On the other side of the Olympics, Novak Djokovic beat the in-form Carlos Alcaraz 7-6(3), 7-6(2) and clinched his first gold medal at the prestigious event. With it, Djokovic even completed his Career Golden Grand Slam, becoming only the fifth player to win all four majors and the Olympic gold. And fans were deprived of watching this too. And who did they say was to blame again? That’s right… BBC!

The network received a lot of backlash from the community and a fan even came forward to comment that their coverage needed to improve a lot to keep fans satisfied. “BBC coverage of Olympics on another level of s**t! they wrote on X frustrated to have missed out on the exciting golf pair-ups and tennis face-offs!

Fleetwood finished at T2 at the quadrennial event. He carded 18-under overall to place himself above the likes of Viktor Perez and Jon Rahm and only narrowly missed out on the top spot that Scottie Scheffler grabbed. But again many weren’t able to watch those exhilarating moments during the final round where Scheffler birdied four of the last five holes to head up, and Fleetwood bogeyed the 17th to miss a playoff. Hence, of course, fans were not pleased.

BBC has the coverage for the Olympics and they aren’t playing the golf. Tommy Fleetwood is in a play off and he can’t watch it. If they aren’t going to cover it why not give it to another channel.”

The Hundred is a professional cricket tournament that pits two teams against each other for a 100-ball match. The London Spirit Men and the Oval Invincibles Men kicked off their match at the Lord’s in London while the Northern Superchargers Women and the Manchester Originals Women started theirs at Headingley in Leeds. One fan mentioned how the BBC was covering these two matches instead of the golf event.

“Tommy Fleetwood going for gold vs The Hundred…guess what’s on BBC 2.” Another enthusiast added that since they could not catch a glimpse of the live coverage, they had to resort to other methods to stay in the loop. “I’ve been reduced to reading the leader board page on BBC Sport and refreshing it every couple of minutes (keep going, Tommy!).” The golf community clearly isn’t happy that they weren’t able to witness the Englishman clinch the silver medal.

After the fourth round ended on Sunday, one could only watch a half-happy, half-sad Tommy Fleetwood acknowledging the fans. It doesn’t take much to guess the reason. The golfer was unable to card a birdie at the final par-4, 18th to force a playoff for the Gold medal with Scheffler. Instead, he could only make himself content with a silver medal.

But it’s not as if the English athlete’s play was any less scintillating. He carded a 5-under on the final day, allowing him to push past the rest in the field to finish at 18-under overall, all the while boasting figures of 67-64-69-66. This helped him finish a stroke behind Scheffler, who won the gold medal with a score of 19-under. Regardless of the close miss, his fans would surely be proud of the 33-year-old. Take a bow, Tommy Fleetwood. You’ve earned it!
