It sure was a wet, yet memorable evening in Paris. The opening ceremony finally kicked off the start of the 2024 edition of the Olympic Games! And guess who was ready for it all? Well, it’s none other than Collin Morikawa and Wyndham Clark, who gave a sneak peek of themselves before the niceties kicked off. Interestingly, the ones to look out for were the fans, for they didn’t seem too keen on the update, all thanks to Bryson DeChambeau not being part of the team.

A picture was shared by the official X handle of the U.S.A.’s golf team, showcasing the two athletes posing for a picture in their Olympic coats. It was reposted by NUCLR GOLF on their profile with the caption, “Collin Morikawa and Wyndham Clark are ready for #Paris.”

The two are but part of the 60 golfers who will be teeing off at the men’s competition that will commence on August 1. The contest, meanwhile, will take place at Le Golf National (remember the 2018 Ryder Cup, which saw Europe beat the U.S.A., 17.5–10.5? ), followed by the women’s event. Although the community is truly excited for the start of the gentleman’s game at the quadrennial event, the Morikawa-Clark snap with their uniforms failed to arouse their patriotic emotions much. Instead, they felt it was better suited to include Bryson DeChambeau (read ‘America’s Favorite’).

Fans express disbelief at Bryson DeChambeau’s 2024 Olympics exclusion

A T6, T2, T1, and a missed cut at the Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and the Open Championship, respectively. Impressive, if you take out the last finish. Well, Bryson DeChambeau sure has been making the best use of his skills in the various majors, not to mention his six top-10 finishes from 10 starts in the 2024 season of LIV Golf. A fan could only hint at the same while commenting, “@b_dechambeau should be in Paris playing for Team USA,” while another stated,  “Bryson should be there instead of Wyndham”

The responses against the 2023 U.S. Open champ didn’t end there, for a follower didn’t deem Clark worthy of the spot. They reacted, “Wyndham is not deserving of this,” while another follower dished out a hopeful comment, “Wyndham has in no way proven to be ready for Paris. Hope he can turn it around and not embarrass our country.” The golfer hasn’t had the best of years this season, especially at the majors. Even though he boasts six top-10 finishes, including a win at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, his major finishes read three missed cuts and a T56, the last of which came at the U.S. Open.

On the other hand, the community’s focus also didn’t fail to fall on the attire of the two golfers. The uniforms worn by the two ended up earning the ire of the golf fans for one responded, “Wow, those coats are HIDEOUS,” while another dubbed them “Circus uniforms.” Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be the first for Clark. Back at the 2024 Masters, the golfer faced quite a bit of backlash owing to his appearance during the practice round at Augusta National. The athlete, sponsored by Mark Wahlberg’s Municipal, wore a polo shirt that failed to captivate the fashionistas of the golf community.

However, a fan, despite his dislike for the same, didn’t shy away from expressing his best to the two athletes: “Good luck to them but they are probably the ugliest jackets I’ve ever seen.” One can only hope that J. Lindeberg’s on-course attire for the four U.S. golfers, including Clark, Morikawa, Scottie Scheffler, and Xander Schauffele, wouldn’t end up on the same lines. Earlier this year, the brand was announced as the official apparel partner for the U.S. team. Guess the fans can only wait and watch!
