The anticipation surrounding the event and the golfers’ performances is high. This also includes the pre-tournament press conference to gather an understanding of golfers’ preparation before the big event.

Jon Rahm, the World No.1, also took to the mic to share inputs regarding the golf course, his current form, and his confidence prior to the 2023 PGA Championship. Amidst the sea of questions, one of them particularly paved the way for a debate. Interestingly, it did not remain within the golf community, rather it surfed to other sports as well. Among them, celebrated Olympian Michael Phelps, also reacted to the insight delivered by Rahm.

As Rahm prepares himself for the 2023 PGA Championship after a dominant victory at Augusta, the audience is anticipating a third major career win for the Spaniard. In fact, the media personnel were curious to know about Jon’s goal of achieving a career Grand Slam.

The 28-year-old without wanting to appear too arrogant said, “Winning the grand slam would absolutely be amazing, but without sounding too conceited or arrogant, I’d rather focus on the number of majors you win.” The same video was posted by Golf Digest on its Instagram account. Most of the viewers seemed to admire the professional golfer’s humble response to the question.

Among various comments, Michael Phelps also responded with a “Well said 💪” to show his approval for Rahm’s outlook towards goal-setting. Phelps is arguably the most successful Olympian, who has won 23 gold medals. Hence, this reaction might have come from the Olympian’s own experience.

Even though the primary aim of the Spanish golfer is to win more majors, he is not being selective of which one he wants to win.

While fans had their own perspective to provide, the 2021 US Open champion also replied honestly. The Spaniard said, “Obviously, if I were to win this week or the Open Championship, it really becomes a true reality, but winning two majors is not easy, and picking which ones you win is a little ludicrous to think about.

The golfer also mentioned how only a small number of professionals have been able to triumph in this title. The last one to win the Grand Slam title was the legendary Tiger Woods. However, with how well 2023 is going for Rahm, we would be hoping to see him continue his A-game at the PGA Championship 2023.
