The whole golf world is currently watching in the third major championship of the year: the US Open 2023. The North Course at the Los Angeles Country Club will serve as the starting point for the US Open’s 123rd iteration. The field has a traditional design and is regarded as one of the hardest to navigate. L.A.C.C. is considered one of the most brilliantly designed 18-hole layouts in the world. It has a secret hole known as “little 17” that is generating a lot of attention.
Every golfer knows that the US Open is their toughest challenge. For golfers, it is one of the most coveted chances to establish lasting legacies. However, the recent updates from the game, where new records are established not once but twice, are generating lots of doubt in the minds of fans. Let’s find out!

Thursday was the most unexpected day in the history of golf. In the previous 122 editions, no one has ever shot 62, but now two have done so in just 15 minutes. On the first day of the 123rd US Open, two outstanding golfers, Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele, both equaled the lowest score in men’s major championship history with astonishing rounds of 62. Fowler was the first to shoot 62 after making the ten birdies. Schauffele didn’t match him until fifteen minutes later, with an 8-under 62. These are the lowest US Open scores ever recorded.
Kyle Porter, who is a golf writer, shared the news on his official Twitter account. The post was captioned “Pretty incredible.”

This is a remarkable accomplishment for both, but it raises a lot of concerns about the field. The North Course isn’t really that defensive in its design, say the onlookers. Over 18 holes on Thursday, nobody had a score of 80 or higher. The average score for the US Open’s first round was 71.37, the lowest in the tournament’s history. The US Open then joined the Bermuda Championship in featuring two rounds of 62 on the same day.
Fans react to the quality of the course
Many fans seized the opportunity to comment on the location immediately after the post. Many thought the course wasn’t up to par, and setting two records in one day isn’t ideal. Let’s look at them:
Yeah…that's not a good thing!

They need a windmill in that ditch to complete the renovation. 5 par 3s and 3 par 5s. Who course comped this to Shinnecock? It's Austin CC, Dell Matchplay w/o the Colorado river

There have been at least 16 rounds of -8 or better in majors since 1983, let’s calm down a little.

Maybe if they play opposite hand tomorrow we’d see more normal USO scoring – I bet someone would still shoot under par.

Certainly, fans are not happy with the layout or the fact that records are broken so easily. Since this is the big competition, everyone anticipates some adversity and challenges on the course. But in the midst of all this, we can’t really ignore the incredible games of Fowler and Schauffele.
