Sullivan’s qualifying story and high stakes

Talk about making the cut! Sullivan proved he’s got the swing of a pro during the qualifying event at Daniel Island Club’s Beresford Creek course earlier this month. His impressive 1-under-par 71 allowed him to advance to the main event.

Reflecting on the significance of the tournament and the opportunities it brings, Sullivan expressed, “It’s such an historic tournament, a big field competing, and it means a lot. If you win the US Junior, the exemptions you get [the next two US Amateurs and the 2024 US Open at Pinehurst], you’re set up for quite a good career.”

Can home-field advantage work miracles for Sullivan?

Who doesn’t love playing on their home turf? Sullivan’s got the home-field advantage, which means, apart from his familiarity with the course, he will be able to sleep in his own comfy bed and will be soaking up the support of his family and friends.

Embracing the excitement and acknowledging the challenges, Sullivan shared his perspective, saying, “But there’s more excitement than pressure. It’s such a big field and so tough to win. You have to expect to play your best. And if you play your best and don’t win…” he said, his thought trailing off.
