One would think LIV golfers must be reeling on the news that Greg Norman is losing his chair as CEO. But surprisingly, Brooks Koepka and Jon Rahm are more focused on the league’s future. Particularly with the new broadcast deal with FOX Sports. “Having FOX Sports on board is a huge win for LIV Golf. They know how to bring sports to life, and I’m pumped to see how they showcase what makes our game so unique,” Koepka exclaimed.

Rahm echoed his sentiments, saying, “This partnership is a huge step forward for LIV Golf and our fans as it will help bring our tournaments to a broader audience.”

Rahm also shed light on the challenges faced by Norman in LIV Golf, which hindered decision-making. He noted, “Unfortunately, there’s been too much bad blood between Greg and the governing bodies, but bringing in a fresh face could be beneficial.” Overall, Norman did not get the kind of farewell he hoped for, and it seems like the former LIV CEO has taken the matter into his own hands.

In fact, Norman has revealed he’ll remain involved with LIV Golf, albeit in a less consuming capacity. “Once my official tenure at LIV is up, which is August 31st of this year, I will stay involved with LIV in some way, shape or form,” he explained per Australian Golf Digest. Norman plans to stay on the board, ensuring his impact on the game continues to be felt.

Reflecting on his time at LIV Golf, Norman confidently asserted, “When I look back on my past three-and-a-half years, from my past 20 years, oh my gosh, I really have changed the game of golf more than what people realise.”

It’s a bold statement, but Norman isn’t shy about acknowledging his own accomplishments, even if others haven’t exactly been lining up to praise him. Even PGA Tour pros are taking it upon themselves to express their views and opinions on Greg Norman’s departure as CEO of LIV Golf.

One of LIV’s most vocal critics, Rory McIlroy, believes Norman’s exit is “probably a good move” for the Saudi-backed league. McIlroy praised the appointment of Scott O’Neil as the new CEO, citing his impressive track record in sports management. “He has an amazing track record with what he has done in sports in terms of managing teams and groups of teams, ownership groups,” McIlroy said.

Jon Rahm, who joined LIV in 2023, also welcomed the change, suggesting that O’Neil’s outsider perspective and “less threatening image” could help improve LIV’s relationships with governing bodies.

The tone of the comments from McIlroy and Rahm suggests that the animosity between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour may be easing. McIlroy even acknowledged Norman’s role in getting LIV off the ground, saying he deserves commendation for that. With O’Neil at the helm, it will be interesting to see how LIV Golf navigates its relationships with the PGA Tour and other governing bodies.

As Rahm noted, having an outsider with a fresh perspective could be a game-changer for LIV Golf. What do you think? Let us know in the comment section below!
