Where is Rory McIlroy? The Irishman is supposed to be playing in the 2025 Arnold Palmer Invitational. But it has been over 30 minutes and fans have still not been able to spot him on the course. That’s because the PGA Tour’s broadcast partners are not showing the world no. 2 in action. This comes as a shock as McIlroy is still competing for the title in the third round of the event.

Placed at T5 after the end of day two, the Irishman was a favorite to win the title going into the weekend. And he was rightfully a part of one of the featured groups for the broadcast partners. However, it seems that after splitting off from fellow Irishman, Shane Lowry, he is not a part of the picture anymore.

And one of the fans pointed out the error of the media partner as they expressed their dissatisfaction with the broadcast. @rory_fans tweeted, “this is borderline unwatchable lmao. When he’s not featured it’s painful.” They seem to be avid fans of Rory McIlroy considering their reaction to his absences. But being the popular player that he is, @rory_fans was not the only person to share their concerns.

There are quite a few from the golf community who pointed out the issue on X. Let’s see what they had to say about Rory McIlroy’s absence from the live broadcast.

Fans distraught as Jay Monahan misses out on giving Rory McIlroy TV time

Not giving Rory McIlroy TV time was bound to receive some heat. Especially, when he is up there on the leaderboard competing for the title. So it doesn’t come as a surprise when one of the fans said “Especially when they are following guys 6 off the lead 🤦‍♂️”. The PGA Tour broadcasters think it’s more important to show Max Greyserman‘s climb from 6 strokes away more relevant than McIlroy’s efforts from 4 strokes down.

Why is Rory McIlroy missing from TV when he's a top contender? Is this fair to fans?

Another criticized Jay Monahan’s the PGA Tour for its broadcast strategy. They said, Can’t blame him … The PGA Tour has become a commercialized joke. Pay Per View -with no announcers or commercials would easily make twice as much revenue.” While the blame never really was on McIlroy, the Jay Monahan & Co.’s focus on commercial and monetary success has been quite obvious recently. That has led to their insistence on discussing a merger with LIV Golf despite the hesitance from both sides.

One of the followers was not pleased with the broadcast partners focusing on Scottie Scheffler. They said, The PGA Tour coverage is so painful. Four or five minutes devoted to Scheffler hitting a layup out of a bunker on a Par 5 is dull.” Having the coverage of one player struggling for 4-5 minutes would seem dreadful to any golf fan.

Fans are also not in favor of the interviews and commentary in between the holes. Someone pointed out “Yup. A little too much chatter so far today IMO. Need more golf shots and analyzations. Hopefully it gets better when the leaders go off.” It’s certainly off-putting if the broadcast focuses more on expert opinions than the actual action that is happening at the Bay Hill Golf Club.

There was a comment that was more critical of the broadcast partners in general. They said, “Its not even funny how much better NBC PGA tour coverage is than CBS. Having announcers also following groups or covering holes is so much better than the same 3 w***ers kissing a** all day.” NBC Sports has been the leading golf broadcaster for the PGA Tour always. And as LIV Golf officials have also experienced, the CBS broadcast team is not that great for the sport and also for the league.

Do you think Jay Monahan should have more control over the broadcast to ensure Rory McIlroy is featured on the Arnold Palmer Invitational 2025’s live telecast?
