Tiger Woods has undoubtedly had one of the biggest impacts on the game and on the PGA Tour. However, despite that, the golf legend’s involvement with the Tour until recently was only as a player. However, that all changed just days ago when the golf legend took up a role among the ranks of the PGA Tour.
Woods was recently announced to have joined the PGA Tour Policy Board and will be yet another voice for the Tour players during this turbulent merger. However, his spectacular return to the Tour now has a possible shadow hovering over it. The reason? Lack of recognition of his new role!

The 15-time major champion has spent over two decades playing on the Tour. And most important of all, he has evolved in tandem with the sport. Amid the troublesome times ensuing after the LIV Golf-PGA Tour merger, he’s taken it upon himself to lead change and joined the Policy Board. However, it seems like his noble motives are currently overshadowed.
As per their records, Woods is not yet a member of any of the leadership groups that are essential in setting the PGA Tour’s course and making decisions. Woods’ name is noticeably missing from the PGA Tour Policy Board, a committee that is in charge of monitoring and making decisions about many facets of the Tour.
Additionally, Woods is not a member of the PGA Tour Champions Division Board, which oversees the PGA Tour’s senior circuit and ensures the senior tour’s success and growth, or the Player Advisory Council, which acts as a mediator between the Tour administration and the players.
Of course, this noticeable negligence could probably stem from the fact that it has only been days since Woods was announced to join the Tour ranks, but it could also lead to many questioning his authority on the Board. After all, when Jay Monahan announced the golf legend as a new member of the board, it certainly was a big deal!
Ever since the $3 billion merger, there has been a lot of speculation among both the public and the players about the future of the Tours as well as golf itself. And one of the PGA Tour’s moves to iron out such wrinkles was to get Woods on board.

Amidst Tour players demanding the resignation of Commissioner, Woods finally breaks his silence
While lack of transparency and uncertainty looms over PGA Tour players, many demanded Monahan’s resignation. Amidst the chaos, PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan’s announced that the 82-time PGA Tour winner will be the sixth Player Director on the newly reformed Tour Policy Board. Through this new rule, the golf great will be looking to be a voice for the remaining players on the Tour.
Woods remarked, “I am honored to represent the players of the PGA TOUR. This is a critical point for the TOUR, and the players will do their best to make certain that any changes that are made in TOUR operations are in the best interest of all TOUR stakeholders, including fans, sponsors and players. The players thank Commissioner Monahan for agreeing to address our concerns, and we look forward to being at the table with him to make the right decisions for the future of the game that we all love.”

The reorganized board, which now consists of six Player Directors, five Independent Directors, and a PGA of America Director, strives to strengthen player influence in decision-making. Patrick Cantlay, Charley Hoffman, Peter Malnati, Rory McIlroy, and Webb Simpson are the other current Player Directors that Woods will now be standing alongside. However, until his name appears on the list officially, the skeptics will keep wondering.
