LIV Golf has many big names signed up, and one of those names is Sergio Garcia.  Though the Spaniard is quite healthy, he faced an unfortunate injury at the LIV Golf’s season-ending tournament. It was not anything major at that time, but it slowly escalated and became a reason of concern for the golfer.

Garcia’s health scare comes at a crucial time, as LIV Golf is preparing for its 2024 season and is expecting a lot of new names on the roster. The Spanish golfer delved into his injury and shared some insights about the excruciating pain that has left his hand a bit tender to play.

Sergio Garcia suffered an unexpected injury

The 2017 Masters winner recently sat down with the team of Fairway to Heaven podcast for its inaugural episode. It is a new LIV Golf podcast that is hosted by Su-Ann Heng and Jerry Foltz. The hosts welcomed Garcia and asked him to share about how his off-season has been, and it was then that the golfer talked about the unfortunate health scare that he faced in Miami.

The LIV defector shared the turn of events that transpired after the conclusion of LIV Golf Miami. The LIV golfer shared an update about his thumb injury and said, “I had my new issue with my thumb that I cut there.” The former PGAT pro described that his thumb injury was aggravating as the days passed.

The 43-year-old continued and said, Unfortunately, Sunday night they got infected.” He also clarified that in order to deal with the aggravating thumb, he had “to be on antibiotics for five days.” Although, the golfer later jokingly said that his thumb looked like a “sausage”.

The LIV Golf defector shared that he is still recovering from the injury as his thumb still feels “tender” when he plays. The champ later assured that he is taking care of it and tries to“play here and there.” Garcia is a veteran of the LIV Golf and he has suffered various injuries throughout his decade-long career.

Though Garcia’s thumb is still tender to play, the Saudi-funded league is achieving new feats with almost every passing day. For the upcoming season, the backway league probably has many new golfers on its roster to welcome. 

LIV Golf readies itself for the 2024 season

The Saudi-backed league announced its field for the upcoming Promotions. The event has attracted many golfers from the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour. The field consisted of many renowned players such as Ryder Cupper Jeff Overton and Victor Dubuisson, major winner Jason Dufner, PGAT winner Chris Stroud, and many others.

The LIV has attracted talents from around the world courtesy of its veteran golfers like Garcia, Phil Mickelson, and Bubba Watson, to name a few. If the speculations are to be believed, the 2023 Masters winner, Jon Rahm will also be making his debut in the Saudi-backed league in the 2024 season.
