At the event’s after-press, Mickelson was asked what would it mean for him to win a LIV Golf tournament at 53. He replied “Yeah, it would mean a lot to me to win one of these events. I am really trying hard. That’s a strong goal of mine. I’m working hard to do it.” Mickelson expressed that a win at LIV will be a big stepping stone for him and he is looking forward to achieving that in Sunday’s round.

Mickelson’s last big victory came in 2021 at the PGA Championship. At that time, Phil was still with the PGA Tour. The victory made him the oldest player to win a major championship at the age of 50. Then the next year his move to LIV Golf came. And Mickelson has been on the lookout for another big win ever since.

At the press meet, Mickelson was also asked about his LIV team HyFlyers GC, and why he thinks they are trending this week. The team captain answered that it is the little things and the combined effort that is working out for them. Personally, he thinks that his short game has improved. He has got better at driving the ball straight. “The game is getting easier, but you have to put it all together to score. I’ve hit a lot of good iron shots, too, and have had a lot of good opportunities to make some putts and birdies.” He hopes that these things will eventually work out for him and his team.
